Position Overview

Position Summary
Reporting to the VP for Administration and Finance with responsibilities to the Chancellor and Presidents of Roswell and Ruidoso campuses, this staff position coordinates and assists with interactions related to the Federal Legislature, New Mexico Legislature, and relevant State and Local agencies.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and collect data as may be required for State agency reporting.
  • At the direction of University Administration, prepare reports that may be required by the state and federal government
  • Gather and correlate recommendations for capital outlay
  • Assist with all university governance activities
  • Maintain records related to all university governance activities
  • Interact/communicate on a regular basis with elected and appointed local/state/federal officials
  • Attend any functions related to duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
A minimum of five years of experience directly related to the duties specified and a bachelor's degree is required (master's degree preferred). Administrative or executive work for a large and complex program is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Knowledge of the mission, structure and operations of a public university
  • Knowledge of the Federal and New Mexico Legislature and legislative processes
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials
  • Knowledge of strategic issues and trends with current and/or potential impact on university operations
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Positively represent the campus's legislative interests

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours but will require evening and weekend hours as well as heavy travel during the legislative and other governmental sessions.
  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
