Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
The
VCSA will report to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, and set the strategic direction for student affairs in alignment with N.C. A &T's priorities of elevating academic excellence, expanding research and entrepreneurial opportunities, and enhancing community engagement. In strong partnership with campus leaders, faculty, staff, and students, the Vice Chancellor will champion initiatives to enhance the student experience, promote student engagement, and improve student satisfaction. Will build trusting relationships with students, forge partnerships with external constituents to advance university priorities, and will use a data informed, systems approach to bolster student retention and graduation and expand post-graduate opportunities. An experienced student affairs professional who is deeply committed to the mission and purpose of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), will have significant experience fostering a thriving campus environment that addresses the complex and dynamic needs of a diverse student body that is positioned for optimal success. N.C. A &T seeks a creative visionary with the passion and experience to lead the Aggie community in reimagining student affairs for the future. |

N.C. A&T offers a vibrant and dynamic student life that contributes significantly to the overall college experience. Student life at N.C. A&T is characterized by a balance of academic rigor, extracurricular engagement, and a commitment to community service. The University provides a supportive and vibrant environment where students can grow intellectually, socially, and personally.
The University hosts a wide array of student organizations catering to diverse interests. These include academic clubs, cultural organizations, professional societies, and special interest groups. Greek life plays a significant role in the social fabric of N.C. A&T. The University is home to various fraternities and sororities, contributing to a strong sense of community, leadership development, and service. Students have access to leadership development programs and opportunities to take on leadership roles within student government, clubs, and organizations. This fosters a culture of leadership and empowers students to make a positive impact on campus and across the community. N.C. A&T hosts a variety of cultural events, including concerts, performances, and festivals. These events celebrate diversity, showcase talent, and contribute to a rich cultural tapestry on campus. Greek life also plays a role in the social fabric of N.C. A&T through the Divine Nine sororities and fraternities, contributes to a strong sense of community, leadership development, and service.
N.C. A&T emphasizes the importance of community service and social responsibility. Many students engage in volunteer work, contributing to the local community and beyond. Service-learning initiatives are integrated into the academic experience.
The departments within the Division of Student Affairs direct and support the academic and co-curricular needs of N.C. A&T students and the University. The division provides leadership in the development of services and programs that enrich student life, extend, and enhance the academic experience, and contribute to an environment that encourages personal growth and development. Minimum Requirements |
North Carolina A&T State University requires an earned master's degree. Preferred candidates should possess a doctorate degree with five to seven years of experience as a senior administrator in higher education student affairs. Candidate should have a compelling vision of the future of higher education with regard to the academic, development and career needs of students. The candidate should have the ability to foster a value-added educational experience for students that transcends the classroom; the personal attributes necessary for fostering strong relationships with students; the ability to advance new approaches to serving students through enhanced use of technology and other innovations. Specific qualifications include:
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective organization, budgetary and administration skills
*Demonstrated commitment to student learning and promoting an understanding of the value of diversity
*Evidence of leading large-scale change initiatives and the ability to actively and effectively engage in collaborative fundraising
*Working knowledge of contemporary issues and approaches in higher education student development
*Evidence of an understanding of the legislative, regulatory, and public policy issues impacting higher education |

The ideal candidate will have at least ten years of progressive leadership executive-level student affairs professional experience and will hold a terminal degree in higher education administration or a related field The ideal candidate should have a knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of student development, engagement and success. A highly visible, personable, and responsive leader who values collaboration with colleagues and across divisions, the next Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs should have good insight into the best ways of serving students who are positioned for optimal success in the future. |
