Role and Responsibilities: The Lead Custodian will be responsible for assisting with the supervision of the custodial crew; which is primarily composed of individuals with disabilities and disabling conditions, and performing custodial duties.



  • Lead and guide the custodial team that primarily consist of persons with disabilities and disabling conditions.
  • Collect and deliver recycling from bins to the recycling center.
  • Use strong customer service skills to interact with staff, officials, and the public.
  • Coordinate work schedules for timely building maintenance.
  • Assist with inventory ordering and management.
  • Maintain storage areas and equipment safely.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate custodial staff, including chemical and equipment use.
  • Manage facility access by locking and unlocking as needed.
  • Keep records of completed work.
  • Clean offices, meeting rooms, and recreational facilities.
  • Mop floors, vacuum carpets, dust furniture, and clean mirrors.
  • Wash and disinfect washroom areas, replenish supplies, and empty trash.
  • Clean entrances, exits, and surrounding outdoor areas.
  • Report damages and vandalism.
  • Use floor polishers and maintain floors.
  • Ensure safety and orderliness of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Restock supplies and note any equipment repairs.
  • Perform additional duties as required.


Requirements:



  • High school diploma and/or GED.
  • Minimum of (2) Two years Custodial or Janitorial experience.
  • Minimum of (1) One year of Supervisory experience.



Skills & Qualifications:



  • Must possess a strong proficiency in operating custodial equipment.
  • Ability to work directly with disabled individuals.


Physical Demands:

The Lead Custodian is a physically demanding position. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects tools or controls. The incumbent must spend the entire time at work standing, walking, lifting heavy objects, operating medium-weight cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, sweeping and mopping floors and moving desks and furniture. The incumbent is required to do a great deal of stretching and bending, often in awkward positions. Note: Operating floor polishers and waxers are particularly hard on back muscles. The incumbent must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
