Position Summary
The UNC- NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant Professor. The position will have an academic appointment in Biomedical Engineering and will lead and participate in NIH-funded research programs to develop technologies in ultrasound enhanced therapeutics and related applications. These projects involve utilizing microbubbles, nanoparticles, and other related materials in combination with ultrasound to achieve advances in drug delivery and early disease detection. A strong background in drug delivery, pharmacology, biochemistry, pharmaceutical science, in vivo studies, and ultrasound is desired. Experience working with Accusizers, PerkinElmer ultrasound systems, Philips TIPS systems, stereotactics, and familiarity with other commercial ultrasound systems is required. Software experience in MATLAB, slicer, Microsoft Word and Excel is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience in design, evaluation, and application of acoustically active microbubbles and nanoparticles to solve challenges with disease localization and treatment. This position will serve as a project leader and will require extensive project conceptualization, organization, and execution, as well as data analysis and report, grant, and paper preparation.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Ph.D. or other relevant doctoral degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related discipline. Candidates must have experience writing NIH grants.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and be creative, highly motivated, and able to work independently, with demonstrated experience in writing and executing grants. The position affords the opportunity to mentor graduate students and undergraduate/professional students in translational research, contribute to the teaching mission of the Research Lab and develop collaborative research programs. The candidate must have the interest in and ability to collaborate with other researchers and must be willing to proactively write and publish manuscripts and plan and write grant applications. The preferred candidate will have at least three years of demonstrated industry experience, as well as post-doctoral experience in a lab with experience in ultrasound enhanced therapeutics.
