Job Summary

Provides engineering technical support associated with the design, analysis, construction, and operations of CenterPoint Energy's overhead and underground transmission, substation and distribution systems.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares engineering and construction packages, including maps, material bills, drawings and work orders.
  • Monitors project schedules and material deliveries.
  • Plans and develops the design, manufacture, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment for the electric power system.
  • Make informed decisions, follow procedures, and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards (i.e. National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, etc.).
  • Uses appropriate software and platforms for Engineering Applications.

Education Description

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience

* Able to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations.

* Able to use SAP, G.I.S., Microstation for technical engineering applications.

* MicroStation or AutoCAD experience would be a plus.

* SAP experience would be a plus.

* Able to interpret, analyze and produce electrical models, drawings and technical documents.

* Able to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions.

* Able to make informed decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy.

* Able to communicate effectively with engineering, construction personnel, customers, and others in written and verbal form.

* Able to work and participate successfully in a team environment to accomplish assignments.

* Able to work well with both technical and non-technical personnel to gather and exchange information, resolve issues, plan activities and meet or exceed objectives.

* Able to use personal computer software proficiently, such as those for word processing, spreadsheets, database managers, presentations and electronic mail.

Physical Requirements
  • Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
  • Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
  • Able to work a varied schedule with projects and deadlines requiring the ability to meet changing demands.
  • Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Working Conditions
  • Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy's Emergency Operation Plan (EOP).
  • Able to work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle daily or for extended time periods, in a safe manner.
