Job Description:
The Surgical Support Technician is responsible for ordering and maintaining supplies and instrumentation in the Operating Room. Major Responsibilities: 1. Assures surgical instruments and trays are sterile and readily available for surgical procedures; prints preference cards for added cases. 2. Assists nursing staff in locating supplies and instruments. 3. Answers telephone. Uses computer for pick list and preference cards and schedules. Changes preference cards and schedule as necessary. 4. Daily instrument and supply orders. Restocking supplies upon receipt. 5. Provides general housekeeping services, monitors surgical area and keeps organized. 6. Oversees instruments and supplies on case carts. 7. Cleans and sterilizes instruments as needed. 8. Demonstrates accountability by providing high quality customer service through communication and service to the surgical staff and outside vendors as needed. 9. Uses Lawson system to order supplies. 10. Responsible for daily/weekly biological testing of sterilization equipment. 11. Uses CWS (Clinical Work Station) to respond to the requests of MD/Nurses to view and/or print operative reports to assist with the preparation of surgical procedures. 12. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance. 13. Performs other job-related responsibilities as assigned. Education and Learning: REQUIRED High School Diploma or equivalency
DESIRED Post High School education in a specialized field: Graduate of an accredited Operating Room Technician or Central Service Technician program Work Experience: REQUIRED 1 year central service processing experience or experience in a health care setting. 1 year of ORT schooling can be substituted for one year of healthcare experience. License and Certifications: DESIRED Certified Central Service Tech (CRCST) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Age Specific Population Served: Nonage Specific (N/A)
