General Position Overview

The Electrical Engineering Lab Technician is a key team member of the electrical engineering team that performs hands-on technician work and manages the onsite electrical engineering labs and equipment.

Essential Job Functions

Demonstrates SoundOff Signal's Core Values in daily interactions with internal and external customers.

  • Works as a member of the electrical engineering team to perform or delegate as needed all electronic technician work within the electrical engineering lab. Responsible for managing the equipment, calibration, workstations, inventory, and team's utilization of said equipment. (~75% of their time).
  • Manages the onsite EMC Lab and supports the engineering team by executing EMC/EMI pre-compliance tests on PCBAs for design verification. (~25% of their time).
  • Identify and resolve or repair issues with PCBAs from manufacturing and triage potential design issues to engineering for design review.
  • Assemble and inspect prototypes for the electrical engineering team, including procurement of components for PCBA.
  • Support sustainment project changes with the electrical engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Support technical services with field failure analysis.
  • Maintains a safe test / work environment by enforcing and complying with procedures, rules, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain lab use best practices and team norms with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Coordinate work for and mentor engineering co-ops and interns in conjunction with the engineering manager.
  • Work cooperatively and professionally with others in the electrical engineering and manufacturing teams.

Job Requirements

  • Must have:
  • Minimum of an associate degree in electronics engineering or equivalent.
  • Demonstrates soldering / rework experience with small surface mount components, and small form factor PCBs
  • IPC-A-610 endorsement, or similar
  • 10+ years of related electronics technician experience, with experience in a lab environment.
  • Extensive working experience with electrical engineering lab equipment such as DMMs, power supplies, oscilloscopes, thermal chambers, etc.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office software suite (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management and work prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels within the organization.
  • Nice to have:
  • Prior EMC/EMI test execution experience.
  • Experience with EMC lab equipment such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, amplifiers, etc.
  • Experience working with Altium Designer
  • Experience working with 3D design tools like SolidWorks. Experience working with Jira

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work onsite
  • Able to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Able to stand, sit, walk, bend, twist, rotate, and/or reach throughout an entire shift
  • Must be able to accurately handle and assemble small parts and components.

Working Conditions

  • Mostly office or lab environment, occasional light manufacturing environment.
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Low noise level in a temperature-controlled setting
  • Some level of domestic and/or international travel may be required
  • Primarily normal business hours with ability to occasionally flex hours
