Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director and the Director of the PHCC, assists faculty in all clinical aspects of patient care and treatment.

Essential Functions

  • Perform chairside duties to include four-handed dentistry.
  • Clean, sanitize and maintain dental operatories; maintain proper sterilization of instruments and materials.
  • Provide post-treatment instruction and materials to patients; escort patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Take radiograph images.
  • Pour diagnostic models and perform minor laboratory procedures.
  • Monitor adherence to infection control policies and procedures among clinic students, residents, and faculty.
  • Restock supplies, clean and maintain equipment as needed.
  • Assist with front desk duties including telephone coverage, scheduling and appointment confirmation.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Director, PHCC

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:

  • Dental terminology and treatments.
  • Scheduling and care coordination in an inter-disciplinary environment.
  • Chairside dental assisting.
  • Sterilization and infection control procedures.
  • Medical emergency procedures including CPR.
  • General office administration methods.


Ability to:

  • Recognize and set-up dental instruments.
  • Perform chairside assisting duties in all assigned roles.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Utilize computer/scanner to employ bar coding system.
  • Utilize clinic management system.
  • Maintain and utilize equipment, instruments and supplies.

Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) year dental assisting experience in a group practice or dental school setting.
Education/Licenses:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current RDA license.
  • Current California x-ray license.
  • Current CPR certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Position is full-time, five (5) days per week, eight (8) hours per day.
  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens may reasonably be anticipated. Personal protective equipment will be provided to reduce or eliminate exposure to routine or limited infectious agents.

  • Bilingual skills (Spanish) highly desirable.


Education/Licenses:
  • Current CDA license desirable.
Other:

  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires standing during the majority of working hours; occasional reaching and bending.
  • Frequent handling of instruments requires incumbent to possess sufficient motor function to execute movements essential to providing oral health care to patients.
  • Occasional computer and telephone use.

Hiring Range $19.58 - $25.94 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
