Description

The Department of Philosophy at Stony Brook University invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in German Idealism starting Fall 2025.

AOS: Kant and/or Hegel & German Idealism
AOC: Open, but the department has needs in modern philosophy and ethics

We seek a candidate with a record of research and teaching that complements the Department of Philosophy's strengths in contemporary Continental thought and the history of philosophy. The successful candidate will be expected to design and teach a range of undergraduate courses, in addition to specialized graduate seminars. We are particularly interested in applicants committed to enriching Stony Brook's lively philosophical community.

Responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate teaching (2/2 teaching load), dissertation and thesis supervision, and standard non-teaching duties. Salary and benefits are competitive.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
PhD (or foreign equivalent) at the time of appointment. Demonstrated experience teaching philosophy courses at the undergraduate level. Ability to design and to teach graduate courses in area of specialization. An articulated research agenda.
