Role Summary

The Sr. Lead, Internal Audit Data Scientist will use advanced analytics, machine learning, and data visualization techniques to address some of Rivian's most significant and most complex risks. The role will involve accessing system data to develop and deploy data models to support risk assessments, audit planning, and continuous monitoring by identifying trends and anomalies across the business. You will collaborate closely with key leaders to enhance audit effectiveness through the innovative use of data.


Responsibilities

  • Lead data analytic effort in supporting internal audit programs, including developing scope, planning, execution, and reporting
  • Develop and maintain collaborative cross-functional relationships across the company, particularly with Data Science, Engineering, IT, Risk Operations and Finance teams
  • Leverage knowledge of data science, analytical tools, and methods to assist in identifying business process risks/inefficiencies and their root causes and develop pragmatic, scalable solutions
  • Identify and develop continuous monitoring capabilities and company-wide Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) dashboards to support a risk-based audit approach
  • Partner with audit team members to understand audit objectives and translate them into data-driven strategies
  • Present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear, actionable manner
  • Drive efforts for expanding the use of data analytics across the IA team through hands-on training, identification of educational opportunities for team member upskilling, etc.
  • Act as reliable, go-to resource for data and risk-related matters and best practices, and be able to custom-tailor information to multiple audiences including C-Suite executives
  • Stay updated on emerging data science techniques, tools, and technologies to continuously improve the effectiveness of internal audit analytics

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in data science, data analytics, or a related field, preferably within financial services, consulting, or internal audit
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business, or related field
  • Expertise in Tableau, Power BI, and Alteryx for data visualization and automation
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for querying, data extraction, and analysis
  • Experience with AWS (Redshift, S3), Databricks, and ETL processes for data management and cloud integration
  • SAP functional knowledge for working with ERP data and supporting business processes
  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable BI solutions
  • Experience with reporting and visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Looker)
  • Independently translate business concepts, requirements, and data sets into targeted analytics with clear findings
  • Demonstrated success in developing solutions through data modeling and analysis
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
  • Excellent communication skills to present complex data findings to non-technical stakeholders
  • Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), Data Science Council of America (DASCA) and/or audit-specific certifications (CIA, CISA, CFE) a plus
  • Travel can be up to 25%, including domestic and international locations

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for Palo Alto, CA based applicants: $191,000 - $239,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).

Salary Range for Irvine, CA based applicants: $176,000 - $220,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
