This role is a part of New Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As part of a diverse Avionics team, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver Avionics hardware systems. As part of the hardworking and diverse New Shepard Avionics team, you will design, develop, and verify high-performance avionics' hardware for various flight vehicles. You will be integrated with our rocket program and technical leads to drive requirements definition, modeling, analysis, design, test and production release of on-vehicle launch, flight and power management components and sub-systems. Your responsibilities will encompass electronic requirements, architecture concepts, detailed design, development, and test. In addition, you will follow avionics designs through formal verification, environmental qualification, release, and participate in flight support activities.

Responsibilities:

Our New Shepard Avionics team is responsible for all vehicle electronic systems: flight computers, navigation, sensors, controls, displays, video, audio, mission support, and more. In addition to the general qualifications above, we are looking for dedicated individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • High-speed digital, analog, and/or mixed-signal circuit design, build, and troubleshooting, with a strong understanding of EE principles
  • Circuit analysis and simulation, such as worst-case circuit analysis, signal integrity analysis, and logic or P-Spice simulation
  • Experience in grounding and general board layout principles, including EMI/EMC tradeoffs
  • Computer command and I/O control for sophisticated industrial systems or vehicles
  • Design of Data Acquisition Systems and familiarity with a variety of sensor technologies
  • Background developing sophisticated circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or other advanced electronic commercial or aerospace products

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • 8+ proven years experience in the design of complex hardware
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the design, verification, qualification, and production phases of the electronic product lifecycle
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related subject areas.
  • 12+ years proven experience in design, development, integration, test, and operation of Avionics systems or vehicles
  • Proven experience specifying and crafting high reliability safety-critical electronics; familiarity with IPC-A-600/610, DO-254 and similar standards
  • Knowledge and experience with SI, PI, and fundamentals of circuit and CCA analysis
  • Background with launch vehicle hardware development, integration, and test
  • Experience developing embedded software or firmware for 32-bit microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGAs
  • Proficiency with scripted and/or compiled languages such as Python and C/C++

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $153,636.00-$215,090.40;WA applicants is $167,088.00-$233,923.20
