LOCATION: Remote - must live in or near Vaya's catchment area. Incumbent in this role must reside in North Carolina or within 40 miles of the NC border. Must be able to travel to the Vaya offices (not just Asheville NC) as needed.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under the supervision of the Member Engagement Director, the Community Engagement Coordinator will partner with the Community Relations team, Member Engagement team, and other external teams to support Vaya's participation in local community events, identify partnership opportunities, and manage distribution of Vaya promotional items and written materials. The Community Engagement Coordinator performs the community outreach, communication, and stakeholder/member support necessary to carry out member and stakeholder related goals in Vaya Health's Local Community Collaboration and Engagement Strategy Member, Beneficiary, and Recipient Educational Strategy and Approach. The member and stakeholder engagement activities of the Community Engagement Coordinator fulfill requirements in the North Carolina 1115 Medicaid waiver, NC DHHS contracts, and help meet accreditation standards. This position is key to maintaining Vaya's positive, working relationships with members, stakeholders, and the community at large.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Sponsorships and Events:
- Conduct all steps to process sponsorships, including but not limited to: seeking Vaya leadership approval for all related expenses, clear communication with requestor for each event/sponsorship, coordination of payment or expenses for each event/sponsorship, coordination of Vaya staff for event attendance, and coordination of promotional items and materials for each event/sponsorship.
- Maintain, organize, and distribute promotions items and written materials.
- Complete all necessary reporting related to events, sponsorships, and promotional items, attendance at events, and expenses related to sponsorships and events.
Support of goals identified in Vaya's community relations and member engagement strategies:
- Provide support for Vaya teams to host collaborative events with community partners that are relevant to members' and stakeholders' health and wellness.
- Provide support for Vaya teams to conduct activities and host events, such as listening sessions and feedback forums, designed to meet the strategic goals of the community relations and member engagement teams.
- Provide support for Vaya's Executive Leadership team to participate in high profile events, such as grand openings, ribbon cuttings, and milestone celebrations.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF JOB

- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including frequent communication with staff at all levels in the organization.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze complex information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 suite.
- Knowledge of Vaya's communities and the needs of individual communities.
QUALIFICATIONS & CREDENTIALING REQUIREMENTS
- Associate Degree in human services or communications field plus three years of experience working is required
OR
- Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of experience in a human service program or communication field
Preferred work experience:
- Preference given to persons with experience relating to stakeholder communication, supporting events and/or experience with human service programs
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparation and analysis of documents; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
- Physical activity in this position includes crouching, reaching, walking, talking, hearing and repetitive motion of hands, wrists and fingers.
- Sedentary work with lifting requirements up to 10 pounds, sitting for extended periods of time.
- Mental concentration is required in all aspects of work.

SALARY: Depending on qualifications & experience of candidate. This position is non-exempt and is eligible for overtime compensation.
