Job Description
The Perinatal Technician provides general patient care and basic patient education. The Perinatal Technician performs duties which indirectly support patient care such as recordkeeping and maintaining supply inventories. This position performs technical skills and assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, registered nurses and other professionals in the Labor & Delivery suite. Performs similar duties in other areas of the Hospital as assigned.
Responsibilities
What you will do
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
- Assists doctors, advanced practice providers and registered nurses, with examinations, treatments, special tests, and procedures.
- Ensures all necessary equipment is in the room, or readily available, prior to the start of a case.
- Checks patients in and escorts patient to room.
- Assists patients with hygiene, pericare, restroom assistance, and turning in bed; transports patients to and from other locations via wheelchairs or bed.
- Scrubbing on cesarean births during scheduled shifts and taking call as needed.
- Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required as defined in the scope of service, to assure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
- Scrubbing on cesarean births during scheduled shifts and taking call as needed. This is a shared responsibility and every effort will be made for the benefit of both the department and the technician.
- Stocking both OR's to include surgical and delivery supplies and equipment; supplies for baby and neonatal rescue equipment in radiant warmers, blankets, suctions, IV solutions, sterile water, sterile saline solution, sutures and other supplies in sub-sterile room; surgical supplies in supply room stocking and maintaining the supply cart in the scrub unit area; and all equipment necessary for cesarean births.
- Stocking and maintaining the drawers within the radiant warmers in each LDR, in conjunction with the Nursery staff.
- Checking all sterile equipment and instruments for availability and expiration dates. Order supplies for the unit or communicate with the designated staff member to complete the order.
- Prepares all instrumentation for transport to/from SPD and Decontamination.
- Maintains accurate documentation.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Minimum Work Experience
- Operating Room Experience Required
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) within 90 Days Required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 90 Days Required
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Able to safely operate all electro surgical equipment, diagnostic equipment, and disposable equipment as well as equipment unique to each specialty area.
- Able to assemble and troubleshoot all equipment as necessary for procedure.
- Knowledge of anatomy related to procedure.
- Knowledge of techniques used by various surgeons for various procedures.
