Position Summary
Are you a seasoned law enforcement professional with strong leadership skills and a commitment to safety? Winston-Salem State University is seeking a dedicated Patrol Sergeant Officer/Police Supervisor to join our campus police department.
About the Role:
This position involves first-line supervisory work on our university campus. As a law enforcement officer with full powers of arrest, you will enforce state and federal laws, ranging from traffic control to criminal investigations within a defined geographic area.
Key Responsibilities:


  • Supervision and Management: Lead and manage a unit of officers or departmental personnel, overseeing their responses to routine calls, emergencies, and other law enforcement services.

  • Evaluation and Coordination: Evaluate the appropriateness of officer responses, designate assignments, direct resources, and interpret laws, ordinances, and department policies and procedures.

  • Training and Development: Conduct officer orientation and training, inspect personnel on a shift, and provide pre-shift briefings.

  • Review and Oversight: Review all reports and investigations completed during a shift, coordinate activities, and conduct performance reviews.

  • Discipline and Planning: Handle disciplinary actions and contribute to operational planning.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in law enforcement with supervisory or managerial responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of state and federal laws, as well as departmental policies and procedures.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under limited supervision and in high-pressure situations.
  • Commitment to maintaining safety and security on campus.

Incentives:


  • Minimum Bonus: A $5,000 bonus will be awarded upon completion of the field training officer program and certification requirements set forth by North Carolina Training and Standards.

  • Additional Bonus: Up to $3,500 will be awarded at the end of year two.
