Overview

**1.0 FTE, 40/hrs week, exempt, Monday-Friday, day shift, benefits eligible**

Will be on call one week per month.

BSN required. Active Driver's License required.

The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator RN is responsible for supporting the preparedness efforts for all Nationwide Children?s Hospital locations and facilities, utilizing an all-hazards/all-threats approach. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Maintains a current Ohio Nursing License.

Responsibilities

    Serves as a clinical representative responsible for ensuring that all Joint Commission requirements for Emergency Preparedness are met.
  • Participates in several internal and external committees.
  • Collaborates to ensure clinical accuracy on educational programs related to Emergency Preparedness.
  • Provides direct service to internal or external customers.
  • Provides a quality of service that customers describe as excellent.
  • Communicates effectively with diverse audiences, using appropriate media and language.
  • Ensures important messages are clearly understood.
  • Provides feedback for improvement of procedures.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of specific procedures.
  • Responsible for planning, coordination, and maintenance of organizational emergency management plans for both internal and external events.
  • Coordinates the planning of hospital disaster/emergency preparedness exercises, in partnership with other agencies such as Central Ohio Trauma System, County Emergency Management and Homeland Security agencies, and other appropriate agencies having jurisdictional authority.
  • Identifies equipment and supply needs, provides input for capital and operational budgets related to emergency preparedness activities.
  • Stays knowledgeable of related topics in the field.
  • Identifies areas/issues appropriate for research study, including developing conditions in community/world.
  • Works in accordance with on-call and scheduling requirements for the Emergency Preparedness Team.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: BSN required

LICENSURE:

  • Licensed as Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record and proof of insurance.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM or State-level equivalent) required. If not current, must secure within 12 months from date of hire.
  • Completion of FEMA IS-100, 200, 700 and 800 courses preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in emergency services or Emergency/Disaster Preparedness preferred.
  • Experience in education/training strongly preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Homeland Security's Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP).
  • Understanding of emergency and operational planning.
  • Familiarity with Hospital-Based First Receivers of Victims Program.
  • Knowledge of pediatric nursing care and practicesDriving of personal vehicle is required.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to see, hear, stand, walk, speak, read and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation, and care for oneself with little or no difficulty..
  • Must be able to independently lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.
