System Engineer Staff

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Systems Engineer supports enterprise class, mission-critical systems and platforms. Responsibilities include capacity monitoring and planning, system troubleshooting, hardware installations and repair, software and operating system installs/upgrades, and automation/scripting of system tasks. The Systems Engineer also ensures efficient and reliable system operation, provides technical support to application teams, monitors emerging technology developments, and identifies opportunities and issues for improvement. Staff must provide support coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Shift coverage and on-call coverage may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain physical and virtual server and storage environments.
  • Test, upgrade, and deploy server and storage platforms while ensuring compliance with change management and security protocols.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to the enterprise server and storage platforms, identifying and resolving issues to maintain high performance and optimal user experience.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the enterprise server and storage platform services, including administration, maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Stay informed of related technology, recommending future system enhancements to improve supportability and reliability.

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business, or other related field; formal technical training or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • 3 or more years of in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience within large-scale, enterprise server and storage environments.
  • Hands on experience supporting enterprise hardware
  • Windows Server 2022 and 2019, RHEL
  • Experience with VMWare ESXi or Nutanix AHV administration
  • SAN administration and maintenance
  • Logicmonitor and Splunk
  • Active Directory administration, including Group Policy, DFS, and Certificate Services
  • Scripting in Powershell, Bash, and Python
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including DNS, TCP/IP, VLANs.
  • Preferred:Technical IT certifications or experience with related technologies, such as AzureAD/Entra, VMware (VCTA, VCP, VCAP) and Nutanix (NCA, NCP, NPX). Additionally, familiarity with ITIL processes and knowledge of the SAFe / Agile framework are desirable.
