Maryland Oncology Hematology is dedicated to providing the most advanced cancer care available anywhere in an atmosphere of caring compassion. We have over 15 convenient locations throughout Maryland and in DC.

Develops, plans, and directs radiation and imaging activities at multiple practice locations to ensure accomplishment of its radiation and imaging financial and operating objectives. Advises Executive Director, Joint Policy Board, Practice Manager(s) and Region CCS Director regarding radiation and imaging services to ensure sustained short and long-term profitability. Ensures the maintenance of quality patient care and adherence to federal, state and local laws and regulations. Maintains responsibility for radiation and imaging operations and activities of the Practice except those responsibilities actively involving the practice of medicine. Supports and adheres to US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

-Oversees the radiation and imaging operations of a multi-site practice. Develops and maintains a plan of organization, recommends changes to Executive Director and Cancer Center Services Group.
-Monitors, analyzes, assesses and communicates progress of practice radiation and imaging services. Considers present and planned capacity. In financial terms, considers manpower and organization needs, including facilities and technology.
-Prepares management reports necessary to carry out the radiation and imaging functions of the practice. Directly or indirectly supervises the activities of all radiation and imaging services staff.
-Ensures effective clinical staff coverage for the Practice, within budgetary guidelines. Initiates and monitors communication and information flow within and among sites as necessary.
-Implements standard radiation oncology and diagnostic imaging policies and procedures throughout the practice. Reviews, revises, as necessary, and coordinates the inclusion of professional standards of organizations such as ACR, ACMP, AAPM, JCAHO and OSHA into patient service procedures.
-Ensures radiation and imaging departments? compliance with appropriate accreditation body standards. Ensures the accurate preparation and maintenance of radiation therapy and imaging records for all patient care.
-Directs the hiring and training of all radiation and imaging personnel for maximum service to patients in accordance with practice and USON policies and procedures.
-Develops performance expectations, and departmental objectives for radiation staff positions to ensure efficiency and productivity. Oversee the completion of performance evaluations for all radiation and imaging staff for all sites.
-Provides/coordinates staff training and in-services as required on new radiation and imaging technologies. Establishes criteria for professional organization participation and certification.
-Ensures all staff members maintain state licensure and are adequately trained to perform duties.
-Works cooperatively with managers and members of other departments and ensures teamwork and cooperation between radiation and imaging staff and other practice personnel.
-Ensures the timely and cost-effective ordering of radiation and imaging equipment/supplies.
-If needed on a temporary basis, performs tasks assigned to radiation and imaging staff as necessary and appropriate to area of education and expertise.
-Assists in the development and implementation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets based on organization goals and objectives.
-Develops annual operating goals and budget for the radiation and imaging departments in support of the practice?s business plan under the direction of the Executive Director and Controller. Controls the radiation/imaging departments, operating costs within budget parameters.
-Ensures the correct use of charge codes and educates all radiation and imaging staff in correct documentation per US Oncology reimbursement guidelines. Ensure all billing is done in a timely manner.
-Ensures the provision of quality radiation and imaging care. This includes radiation treatment delivery, dosimetry, brachytherapy, and diagnostic imaging.
-Advises physician-chair for QA/QI committee to ensure implementation and compliance of program standards. Directs the establishment and continual evaluation of a QA program with consideration to the ACR, AAPM and ACMP recommended guidelines. Participation in a QA program including chart review and dosimetry review as necessary.
-Ensures radiation and imaging modalities compliance with appropriate accreditation body standards.
-Directly or indirectly supervises the activities of all radiation services staff.


Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited radiation therapy technology program.
  • Minimum of seven years radiation experience including at least two years actively practicing as an RTT or dosimetrist, and at least five years of managerial and/or administrative experience.
  • ARRT certification required; valid state licensure for radiation therapy preferred.
