Overview

SCOPE : Under limited supervision, performs technical and analytical duties involved in the collection and reporting of cancer registry data consistent with state, national and company guidelines. Conducts case finding audits and quality control reviews to ensure reliability, completeness and consistency of data. Prepares statistical reports for management and clinical staff. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise and training to other members of the Cancer Registry group.
  • Performs quality assurance reviews to ensure data quality. Maintains quality control logs and copies as appropriate.
  • Provides a summary of pertinent information including demographic, cancer information, stage and treatment plans utilizing all reference material through the abstraction of core data set into a specific database.
  • Completes and submits data as appropriate to state Cancer Registry and others as needed.
  • Performs case finding by researching patient lists from clinical systems.
  • Establishes mechanisms to ensure all appropriate patients are captured for review within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ensures that AJCC staging forms are completed and charted in patient records in a timely manner.
  • Completes patient care evaluation studies on an annual basis to determine if patients are treated in accordance with treatment guidelines.
  • Liaisons with clinical and management staff at practice sites for Cancer Registry function.
  • Compiles data as requested by administration and medical staff. Maintains data request logs and copies of reports as appropriate. -
  • Assists in the preparation of annual clinical resource management reports. changes cancer registry data in accordance with all policies and procedures, institutional, and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Assists with community cancer control initiatives and programs to promote the use of Cancer Registry data.
  • Gathers surviving patient data for follow-up purposes and reports information on deceased patients as appropriate.
  • May oversee the activities of other Cancer Registrars and provides guidance and technical expertise to staff.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in the Life Sciences and minimum three to five years of experience as a cancer/tumor registrar; or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) preferred.
