Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking an experienced Air Vehicle Systems Engineer to provide Naval Aviation expertise in a highly dynamic environment to support our NAVAIR customer at Patuxent Naval Air Station located in Lexington Park, MD. This leadership position supports the Air System Group and the assigned Program Management Office. Systems engineering skill set will apply to the air vehicle aeromechanics, structures, materials, and several subsystems. Airworthiness, acquisition, sustainment, and project management are products and services rendered. Professionalism and the ability to prioritize/organize high visibility efforts while being working with multiple technically diverse teams that are geographically dispersed. Operate as a subject matter expert and/or Project/Program manager. Responsible for development and/or oversight NAVAIR level or Component/Command level program (or programs) relating to research, new acquisition, testing, evaluation, innovation, in-service and reengineering. Recommend tradeoffs between cost, schedule and performance.
- Perform services and provide products within the systems engineering requirements including, but not limited to: systems engineering technical reviews, tailoring requirements for the efforts in collaboration with technical domains, statements of work, technical evaluations, risk management, investigations, system requirements, etc...
- Determine the direction of technical work and effort of other personnel. Review the work of others and provide coordination and insights into the progress.
- Promote the spin-off/transfer of federally owned or originated technology, as appropriate, to state and local governments and to the private sector.
- Provide engineering expertise to the class desks, and IPT's in support of Program Management (PMA) and Air Systems Group (ASG) efforts. Propose and guide the program management and contractor personnel through the system engineering process. Negotiate within the department and with other government activities as required to acquire needed timely technical support.
- Collaboratively, with the technical team, develop technical approach, cost estimates, manpower/facilities requirements, and milestones related to program objectives.
- Technically manage, integrate and coordinate the technical efforts of a variety of journeyman-level engineers and technical experts within the Air Vehicle Department on programs and projects involving multi-division or multi-site participation, where such integration and coordination is crucial to success. Efficiently and effectively collaborate with Technical Warrant holders. Coordinate with industry partners and other government services as required.
- Coordinate specific software, process development and testing efforts performed internal and external to government entities. This includes, but not limited to government laboratories, Fleet Readiness Centers (FRCs), vendors, air vehicle, and manufactures.
- Resolve conflict and provide systems engineering technical guidance concerning changes in technical approach and program objectives. Ensure all appropriate stakeholders are included in the resolution.
- Responsible for the horizontal integration/coordination across Air Vehicle Engineering Department disciplines. Develops and coordinates air worthiness requirements and identifies data products needed to support interim flight clearances.
- May be asked to represent the Naval Air Systems Command Air Vehicle Engineering Department as a systems engineer at meetings and conferences with contractors and other Government activities, as appropriate to the position responsibilities.
- Responsible for reviewing contractor's design, test plans, developmental data, and specifications; recommending changes and additional areas of investigation; and reporting progress and problems to other team members, program managers, and Navy management.
- Develop rationale and advocate for incorporating changes brought about by feasibility limitations, state-of-the-art enhancements, and modified operational requirements.
- Maintains knowledge and insight into the critical risk areas. Identifies, analyzes, and mitigates risk in accordance with program risk management plan.
- May be asked to represent the NAWCAD with ONR, NAVAIR, DARPA, and other government sponsors as an Air Vehicle technical point of contact, as appropriate for the position.
Qualifications
What you will need:
- A minimum requirement of a Bachelor of Science degree in one or more of the following: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and/or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited university with 8 years of experience; A Masters of Science in Systems Engineering and/or other Engineering related disciplines given preference with 6 years of experience.
- 5 years experience in Naval Aviation Systems Engineering required, 10 years experience desired.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple high priorities efforts; while maintaining requirements.
- Ability to Obtain & Maintain a Department of Defense Secret Clearance.
- United States of America citizenship (no dual citizenships) - Proof will be required.
Desired (But not required):
- CAMEO SysML Model Based Systems Engineering familiarity and/or architecture
- Air Vehicle Experience in materials, aerodynamics, vehicle performance, vehicle modeling & simulation, handling qualities, dynamics, flight controls, strength, loads, fatigue, hydraulics, pneumatics, environmental control systems, fire protection, anti-icing, landing gear, wheels, bearings, fasteners, transparencies, internal & external cargo, latches, doors, aircraft surveillance, corrosion protection, non-destructive inspection techniques, fuel systems, and aerial refueling.
- Worked on PMA 275; V22 products/services either in industry or in a government capacity. If not familiar with the platform, be able to show translatable skill sets to achieve program mission success.
- Led and/or participated as a subject matter expert in root cause corrective action (RCCA) efforts in an engineering capacity.
- Led and/or participated as a subject matter expert in systems engineering technical reviews (SETR) and can described the process and stakeholders required.
- Must be able to efficiently, effectively, and succinctly communicate. This includes both in writing and verbally professionally. Expected to maintain strong communication amongst all stakeholders. Communication needs to be done in an appropriate environment with security permissions followed.

Target Salary Range
$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
