Position Summary |
The Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (
CIDD) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a full-time, Program Coordinator in a role comprised of project coordination and direct practice. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination of a project sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services (
DHHS) aimed at exploring people with disabilities' interest in transitioning out of state developmental centers (SDCs) and into the community. The position also entails provision of clinical services as well as clinical supervision and training.
SDC Community Interest Program is in response to the federal Olmstead Act passed in 1999 when the Supreme Court held that people with disabilities have a qualified right to receive state funded supports and services in the community rather than institutions. The project is sponsored by the Department of State Healthcare Facilities (
DSOHF) within
DHHS.
The project is a collaboration between the
CIDD, the Cares program and the
UNC School of Social Work. The principle responsibilities of this position would entail communicating with all project team members, representatives from the four Local Management Entities/Managed Care Organizations (
LME/MCOs) across the state and with representatives at the three State Developmental Centers (SDCs) to coordinate a plan for outreach, education, and surveying people with disabilities (PWDs), legal guardians to measure their interest in considering community living options. The position will also participate on multiple interdisciplinary diagnostic and consultative clinics, conducting family and environmental assessments, providing psychoeducation to individuals and families about federal, state, and community waiver programs, services and resources, and participating in clinical rotation as the clinical team coordinator. Finally, the Program Coordinator participates in our expanding Family Support Program that entails administrative support and provision of clinical and navigation guidance for our team of social workers, trainees, and family navigators (who offer emotional support and information and service navigation based on their own lived experience supporting someone with developmental disabilities). The clinical role also entails opportunities for mentorship and supervision of graduate level trainees from various allied health fields who participate in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (
LEND) program. Opportunities for providing individual or group therapy services through the
CIDD are based on incumbent's interests and availability. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
The ideal candidate must hold or be pursuing licensure (full or associate) or certification through the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board. If pursuing licensure, licensure must be recieved in 60 days.
Experience in healthcare setting or experience working directly with individuals with I/DD. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to travel to
UNC facilities, travel to partner sites/practices, and may need to travel as far as 5 hours from
UNC. Ability to work independently, performing 20-40% of work remotely. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience working on a multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of diagnostic, treatment, and system navigation issues as they relate to the NC Intellectual Developmental Disabilities population. Previous work experience in a NC managed care organization, the NC Department of Health and Human Services, or in a services delivery agency supporting individuals with
IDD and their families. Strong engagement with social work principles and their application to complex problems required for case management and interdisciplinary collaborations and interdisciplinary team meetings. Experience with Microsoft Teams, Power Point, Word, and Excel is strongly preferred. |
