MongoDB's mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build anywhere-on the edge, on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 developers joining MongoDB every month, it's no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

We're looking for a dynamic and strategic Vice President of Engineering to shape the long-term strategy of observability at MongoDB, and deliver cutting-edge monitoring, observability and diagnostic features across our product suite. • 10+ years of experience leading software engineering teams, including experience leading across multiple management levels
  • A proven track record of defining and communicating strategic vision, mobilizing teams to deliver the outcome, and demonstrating strong ownership and accountability; The role requires both direct team leadership and indirect leadership through influence across departments to successfully deliver on the observability strategy
  • Experience building, evolving and scaling complex distributed systems and/or database management systems, with a focus on high-performance and reliability
  • Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • A demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and high-functioning team environment, and to developing future leaders
  • Proven ability to influence peers across the organization, and engage with customers to understand their needs

In this role, you will ...

  • Ensure the security, reliability, scalability, and performance of MongoDB's observability services, with millions of users globally
  • Complete the transformation of our metrics pipeline, evolving it from a database-specific architecture to a flexible open-source standard-based pipeline (leveraging OpenTelemetry and PromQL) that can support all current and future MongoDB Atlas products
  • Lead efforts to simplify performance diagnostics, making it effortless for our support teams to resolve issues, and enabling engineering teams to continuously improve our products
  • Transform MongoDB auto-scaling strategy, leveraging real-time inference, and developing the next generation of index suggestions - moving from traditional algorithms to machine learning models to drive even greater efficiency
  • Evolve our centralized metrics service to ensure seamless integration with popular third party platforms like DataDog, New Relic, Dynatrace, and others
