About the Department
The College of Sciences ( COS) is home to six departments: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Biological Sciences, and Marine Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. In addition there are several Centers focused on research and graduate student training (Bioinformatics Research Center, Center for Research in Scientific Computation), as well as strong outreach efforts, such as the Science House and strong partnership with the State Museum of Natural Sciences. The State Climate Office of North Carolina is also part of the college. The faculty, staff, and students of the College of Sciences are committed to excellence in research, teaching and learning, and public service. Our focus on multi-disciplinary collaboration builds a foundation of experience that well prepares students for the real world. Our undergraduates work alongside faculty and graduate students on research teams exploring some of today's most exciting scientific challenges. The college provides instruction in the sciences to thousands of students enrolled in the many other colleges at NC State.

Essential Job Duties
The College of Sciences at NC State University is seeking talented and innovative faculty with expertise and experience in research and teaching in a Sciences discipline as well as expertise in science communication, outreach, education, and/or policy for three tenure-track assistant professor positions. As tenure-track faculty members, the successful candidates will have a strong commitment to both teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning, and pedagogical research in science communication, outreach, education, and policy. The successful candidates will play key roles in developing physical, biological, and mathematical sciences programs, leveraging creative pedagogical approaches, and fostering a collaborative and student-centered learning environment. A preference will be given to those developing cross-disciplinary programs. Their scholarly activity might include areas in interdisciplinary education, mentorship, and best practices for interdisciplinary and hands-on laboratory-based coursework, science communication, life-long learning, and state and national science education policy. They will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate science courses associated with aspects of science communication, outreach, education, and policy, and contribute to the development of innovative instructional methods. The successful candidates will seek external funding to support research into these endeavors.
The ideal candidates should have a proven track record of successful teaching and discipline-based research, with a preference for experience in integrative and interdisciplinary approaches. They have experience in training students using active learning and inquiry-based approaches. The successful candidates will serve as role models and mentors to new faculty and students at the college level, encouraging innovation and creativity in STEM education, communication, outreach, and policy. They will also work closely with existing faculty and leadership to drive positive student outcomes and contribute to a culture that elevates the value of interdisciplinary teaching and learning. The positions are envisioned to interface with the Integrative Sciences Initiative, joining a dynamic group of interdisciplinary scholars reimagining STEM education, communication, and policy landscape. The successful candidates will have a tenure home in one of the six academic departments in the College of Sciences appropriate to their expertise. Candidates will have opportunities to collaborate with staff in The Science House and the North Carolina State Climate Office in the College of Sciences.
