Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Assistant Dean for Administration and Resource Management serves as the chief financial and human resources officer for the College and is a member of the leadership team responsible for assuming a leadership role for strategic, capital, non-capital, and financial planning for the College. The Assistant Dean is responsible for planning and oversight of the College resources and for ensuring that planning is based on an analytics approach - working with College administrators to analyze relevant data and develop short and long range financial and staffing models for strategic planning and decision-making. The Assistant Dean also collaborates with College administrators in short-term and long-term space and facility planning. In addition, this position supervises two full-time business services professionals and one university program associate and provides indirect supervision/coordination for the administrative support staff throughout the College.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in Business or Public Administration, Finance, Data Management, or a related field with at least three years of managerial experience in higher education OR a Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, Finance, Data Management, or a related field with at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in Higher Education or public sector in financial administration and planning.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure of a university.
  • Familiarity with budget processes and policies in the University of North Carolina System.
  • Familiarity with Banner Finance and Banner HR reporting systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively working in a matrix organization.
  • Five years experience with EHRA and SHRA position management.
  • Ability to lead and supervise the College's business services staff through two-way communication and a team-based approach.
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate technical material to a variety of audiences orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of university resource needs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of university funding models.
  • Ability to understand and utilize modeling and analytic techniques to develop financial and enrollment projections.
  • Experience with financial and data-management software and the ability to quickly learn new systems as the campus implements them.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts offers a variety of programs in the liberal arts leading to the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing, Bachelor of Music, Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts in creative writing and filmmaking, and Master of Public Administration. The college also offers combined bachelor's/master's degree programs in Spanish and English. To implement these programs, the college provides instruction, research, and creative opportunities in the humanities, social sciences, and arts.
The 15 academic departments in the college provide courses of study in each of these areas, in addition to interdepartmental programs in Africana studies; American studies; Asian studies; classical studies; European studies; forensic science; journalism; Latin American studies; medical humanities; Middle East and Islamic studies; Native American studies; and women and gender studies. The college houses the Gender Studies and Research Center, an interdisciplinary and intersectional community of students, scholars, and advocates committed to social justice and equity.
Undergraduate certificates for professional writing and publishing, as well as post-baccalaureate certificates in conflict management and resolution, emergency and disaster management, forensic science, science and medical writing, women's, gender, and sexuality studies, Hispanic studies, and a post-master's certificate in liberal studies, are also offered.
