Government Reimbursement Manager

Position Summary:

Responsible for all reimbursement functions related to Methodist Hospital, Regions Hospital, Olivia Hospital, Hutchinson Hospital, CVTCU, HP Hospice, HP home office, PN home office, RHSC home office, and St. Croix Valley hospitals, including preparation and filing of all governmental (federal and state) and other third party cost reports, cost report audits, appeals of adverse reimbursement decisions or calculations; to prepare third party contractual allowance/revenue deduction calculations for activities and keeps management informed of impacts; to supervise the reimbursement staff; aid education and government relations staff, and to perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or finance or health related field.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in accounting/reimbursement with at least three (3) years dealing with hospital and government reimbursement.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of managerial/supervisory experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Advanced knowledge of hospital Medicare cost accounting fundamentals.
  • Advanced knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid payments, with particular- added knowledge DSH, IME, DME, Critical Access, SCH, DPA, IGTs, and other teaching and safety net payments.
  • Knowledge of accounting, statistics and general business principles and practices.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with senior level management across multiple organizations.
  • Ability to supervise employees, particularly employees who are highly analytical.
  • Ability to train and focus employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to use a personal computer (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint) and advanced knowledge of cost report preparation software.
  • Ability to work independently with light supervision.
  • Ability to analyze proposed legislation and other policies and determine impact on hospital, critical access, SNF, hospice, home care, ambulance, laboratory, RHC, home office, and physician systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of third-party reimbursement payment mechanisms and settlement procedures.
