General Responsibilities
The admissions analyst seeks, develops, and helps with the implementation of strategic initiatives for improved efficiency and productivity. The admissions analyst performs professional level duties in researching, analyzing, and resolving complex technical issues related to student admission, registration, and records. Further, the admissions analyst is responsible for the general oversight and processing of applications for admission to the college, managing multiple tasks involving importing, scanning and data entry of applicant documents utilizing the client relationship management system ( CRM) and student information system ( SIS). Ensures that all required application documents are received and maintained in the student record. This role functions as a part of a team and is the behind-the-scenes support of student admission documents and processes.
Work Performed

  • Analyzes, uncovers trends, and utilizes best practices with strategic application processing and communication.
  • Examines and researches historical data to uncover insights into the direction or tendencies of a particular pattern.
  • Issues all appropriate federal documents for F1 students and other international citizens as appropriate.
  • Works closely with the Associate Director of International and Immigrant Services and the EI to update the college's I-17, re-submit the I-17 as required and to prepare for periodic recertification successfully.
  • Assists the Associate Director of International and Immigrant Services with staff training related to international student admissions, including updates and alerts related to DHS responses to national and world events affecting enforcement of laws and regulations.
  • Assists with the coordination of international student orientation, F1 cohort advising and registration, specialized workshops, and other services for F1 students and other international citizens enrolled or seeking to enroll in credit programs and courses.
  • Assists with the ongoing development and maintenance of the college's website for international students.
  • Responds to inquiries of all kinds related to the enrollment of international citizens.
  • Attends all appropriate conferences, workshops, meetings, and participates in other professional development opportunities.
  • Processes and maintains a large caseload of admissions applications and creates new student records including and not limited to, dual enrolled, traditional, international, immigrant, honors, and clinical applicants.
  • Provides guidance and support through the admissions process assisting students, as needed, with the submission of required documentation and ensuring application completion.
  • Employs technology to assist students with navigating the admissions application process.
  • Provides on-going quality communication, effective customer service and support to applicants by using consistent, effective outreach and follow-up, including phone calls and digital communication, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews necessary documents for various application requirements, including test scores, letters of recommendation, essays, and residency and financial documents. Follows up with applicants regarding their admissions status.
  • Maintains and updates accurate applicant records and files along with collected student information using the college's client relationship management (CRM) system and the student information system (SIS); creates and submits reports.
  • Scans and documents application materials, including documents received through mail, email or digitally.
  • Accurately and securely processes all incoming transcripts and utilizes system workflows to move transcripts, and other student documents, for record updates.
  • Assists with other information specialists' functions as necessary.
  • Cross-trained in other application specialist-related functions.
  • May serve as acting office supervisor in office supervisor's absence.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of student information and records compliance with laws and policies.
  • Attends all appropriate conferences, workshops, meetings, and participates in other professional development opportunities.
  • Resolves problems related to areas of responsibility.
  • Attends staff development activities and updates skills as required and as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education Required Bachelor's degree
Minimum Number of Years Experience Required 3
Other Knowledge Required
Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, foreign language, social science, student development or related field and three (3) years of admissions-related experience required. All degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor. Outstanding technology skills required. Additionally, requires excellent knowledge of student information system, MS Office, including proficiency with Excel and Word. Experience with Ellucian Recruit, Colleague and Advise preferred. Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills, including outstanding customer service skills and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Ability to acquire, maintain and update substantial information regarding college policies and procedures and work with a broad range of people. Prior experience with diverse populations preferred, including international student, students with disabilities, speakers of English as a second language veterans and active military personnel and their families. Ability to be flexible and work as a member of a large team required.
Working Conditions
Extended evening hours during peak periods or in the absence of other staff, some weekend hours required. Customer service position involves multiple tasks, which must be handled simultaneously under frequently stressful conditions. Substantial organization and attention to detail required. High volume of work. Problem-solving and independent thinking required. Possible eyestrain due to extended time at computer terminal. Individual workspace and in counter location frequently shared by others. Occasional off-campus travel.

Howard Community College offers competitive salaries, excellent medical and dental selections, tuition reimbursement and paid leave programs. As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
