DESCRIPTION

Decypher is seeking Certified Surgical Technologist (Dermatology) candidates to provide support to the mission at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Transports patients and related records to and from the operating room and recovery room.
  • Assist nursing staff with preoperative patient preparation activities.
  • Accomplishes routine safety checks and operator preventive maintenance on fixed and moveable equipment and fixtures.
  • Performs routine and specialized housekeeping activities.
  • Prepares operating room for surgery by setting up and opening sterile supplies and instruments.
  • Assists Anesthesia personnel with patient positioning and anesthesia administration.
  • Applies principles of asepsis, infection control, and medical ethics.
  • Assists with terminal cleanup of operating room and prepares for follow-up procedures.
  • Receives, decontaminates, and cleans soiled patient care items and assembles, wraps, and sterilizes instrument sets, supplies, and linen packs.
  • Stores, maintains, and distributes sterile patient care items.
  • Assists the circulating nurse with preparing records, reports, and requests.
  • Prepares specimens for transport to the laboratory and performs scrub duties.
  • Prepares and maintains sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment of draped tables and stands.
  • Counts sponges, needles, instruments, and related items with circulating nurse before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Passes instruments, sutures, and other supplies to the sterile operative team.
  • Clean, prepares, sterilizes and maintain instruments and reusable supplies for terminal sterilization and decontamination.
  • Participates in contingency or disaster field training and exercises.
  • Assists surgeons and nursing staff with monitoring and recording vital signs.
  • Administers oxygen and helps arouse patient.
  • Assists with identifying and managing of postoperative complications.
  • Schedules and prepares patients and sets up instruments, supplies, and equipment for specialized procedures in the OR and specialty clinics.
  • Assists specialty surgeon during surgical and diagnostic procedures. Assembles, operates, and maintains diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
  • Orders radiographic procedures as directed.


QUALIFICATIONS

Degree/Education: The HCP shall have a high school education or GED equivalent and must have successfully completed an accredited CAAHEP or CHEA (Council for higher education/Commission on accreditation on allied health education programs) course.

Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Certified Surgical Technician.

Experience: shall have one year experience after graduation from accredited school within the last two years as a Certified Surgical Technician (Dermatology).

Skills and Knowledge: The HCP shall meet the following skills and knowledge requirements:

* Knowledge in uses of aseptic technique and principles of infection control.

* Knowledge of fundamentals of anatomy and physiology, operating room procedures, nomenclature, medical terminology, use of surgical instruments and equipment, and basic medical supply procedures is mandatory.

* Knowledge of preoperative nursing care appropriate for premature infants, neonates, infants, toddlers, preschool age children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients and the ability to scrub in all specialties highly desirable.
