General Position Overview

With the heart of a teacher, the Shipping Team Leader seeks to educate all shipping team members in best practices, tailored to each individual's needs and abilities, with an understanding of how and why we do what we do. Committed to enhancing public safety worldwide, the Shipping Team Leader exhibits SoundOff core values in all activities as they plan, lead, and organize daily actions within the shipping department. Identifies daily requirements, delegating activities based on available labor and skills. Accountable to assure all eligible shipments are coordinated, executed, and documented correctly. Responsible for department personnel issues and performance. Works closely with scheduling, customer service, and assembly departments to identify and resolve obstacles to on time shipment.

Ability and responsibility to step into managers' role during managers' absence or when otherwise appropriate, and to act on managers' behalf. Ability to step into any other role within department, and identify when this is required.

Essential Job Functions

  • Training and development of shipping personal.
  • Regular employee performance feedback:
  • Daily coaching.
  • New Employee 7/30/90 day checkup reviews.
  • Annual performance reviews.
  • Develop process work instructions to meet KPM's and customer requirements.
  • Assess daily department requirements, capacity, and capability; respond accordingly.
  • Accountable for accurate shipping documentation such as packing lists, shipping labels, ASN's (Advance Shipping Notices), etc.
  • Responsible to support and backup export compliance activities.
  • Coordinate fulfillment of customer requirements with excellence and accuracy. Manage shipment order changes and exceptions.
  • Verify and maintain records on outgoing shipments.
  • Research, analyze, and solve problems with daily shipping transactions.
  • Promptly address after shipment customer concerns such as lost or damaged shipments, missing or excess material, or incorrect charges. Responsible to file carrier claims & investigations.
  • Able to work 8+ hour shifts. Hours may flex with little notice based on customer requirements and/or workload.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma required, Associates Degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 4 years related experience.
  • Basics of planning and scheduling as they relate to shipping activities.
  • Basics of business administration and management, and related interactions within shipping department.
  • Geographical aptitude to understand & guide freight routing.
  • Transportation principles and methods, including relative costs and benefits.
  • Packaging industry standards, terminology, and practices. Using those practices to make sure our products deliver safely.
  • Export compliance regulations.
  • Transportation regulations, domestic & international.
  • Basic understanding of SoundOff products, applications, and markets. Apply knowledge to logistics and compliance situations for effective training and decision making.
  • Maintain calm in urgent situations to resolve issues with due diligence and reasonable care.
  • Multi-tasking and strategic delegation.
  • Self-motivated and self-controlled.
  • Communication clarity. Understand and construct professional, grammatically correct documents, letters, email messages, etc.
  • Customer Service skills to listen & understand the need, problem solve through possible resolutions, and implement solutions including follow-up.
  • Expert computer and keyboarding skills, proficient with MS Office Suite.
  • Fluency using ConnectShip software at User 1 and User 2 levels.
  • Effective time management.
  • Forklift or other industrial lift truck as needed.
  • Problem Solving. Discernment to see problems and potential problems, ability to dig in and fix them with appropriate solutions.
  • Mechanical aptitude including troubleshooting ability with department equipment including printers, computers, tapers, etc.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Able to stand, sit, walk, bend, twist, rotate, and/or reach throughout an entire shift.
