Position Summary

Sealed Air has an immediate position available for a chemist on the Analytical Sciences team at Sealed Air's Global headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Analytical Sciences group works with engineers and scientists within our Innovation and Development division (R&D) to develop new packaging solutions that are safe and sustainable. Analytical capabilities include chromatography (GC/MS, LC/MS, GPC), microscopy (optical, SEM, AFM), spectroscopy (FTIR, Raman, XRF), thermal analysis, and rheology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Aid in product development and product safety evaluations by performing analyses and developing new methods using liquid and gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry (LC/MS and GC/MS). Tools available include a variety of GC and LC systems as well as time of flight, quadrupole, and tandem mass spectrometry.
  • Perform GC/MS and GC/FID testing on packaging products and raw materials to identify and quantify volatile organics. Perform complex data analysis by using a combination of NIST EI libraries and chemical intuition. Prepare calibration standards for GC/MS as needed. Develop new GC/MS methods as needed to increase laboratory capabilities and efficiency. Troubleshoot instrumentation in GC lab when problems arise. Stay updated on the latest GC/MS developments and market trends, providing input on future equipment needs.
  • Use spectroscopy, microscopy, and thermal analysis to provide marketplace intelligence, support product development efforts, and troubleshoot customer or manufacturing issues.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineers and scientists to create new, smart and sustainable packaging solutions that enable automation as well as prevent food spoilage and product damage.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment; adhere to existing safety protocols and participate in department safety programs
  • Document results in the global LIMS system and ensureaccuraterecordkeeping
  • Partner with internal and external customers to assist in problem solving

Qualifications

  • BS or higher in Chemistry with analytical focus preferred.
  • Strong background in analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis, with experience performing chemical testing techniques in a safe laboratory environment. Preference given to those having experience with chromatography and mass spectrometry, but direct experience is not a requirement.
  • Experienced in using standard computer software for word processing and spreadsheets
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English
  • The ability to work effectively independently, demonstrating strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Authorization to work in the United States
