ChampionX has an immediate need for a highly motivated Principal Chemist on the Chemical Technologies RD&E team located in Sugar Land, TX. The Principal Chemist will provide technical support to our customers and optimize/develop new products/formulations with focus on well intervention and enhanced oil recovery. The Principal Chemist will also support field evaluation at customer sites, manufacturing and supply chain support. The ideal candidate is highly versatile, communicates effectively, and thrives in a collaborative environment.

What You Will Do:

  • Adopt, maintain and promote our safety standards.
  • Deliver innovative solutions related to well intervention and enhanced oil recovery to meet customer needs.
  • Manage mid complexity projects once established
  • Develop new chemistries, formulations, and lab testing methods.
  • Provide technical support to our customers.
  • Interpret experimental data and communicate technical recommendations or test results to a wide range of audiences including internal and external customers
  • Collaborate with other functions to support ChampionX business strategy.
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement mindset and ability to modify processes to improve internal efficiency and responsibly deliver energy.
  • Explore adjacent technologies

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in chemistry, geology, chemical engineering or related technical field. PhD and <2 years of experience, or Master's degree and +3 years of relevant industrial experience, or BS degree and +5 years of relevant industrial experience.
  • Experience with surfactants chemistry and testing.
  • Proven capability in developing innovative solutions, including but not limited to product formulation and development.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret incomplete information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Detail orientated and outstanding time management skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in formulating and evaluating well intervention and or enhance oil recovery chemicals.
  • Familiarity with core flooding techniques and EOR modeling.
  • Experience in tailoring molecular structure property relationships to solve real world problems.
  • Prior experience with product-scale up, commercialization, or manufacturing process troubleshooting.
  • The desired candidate will be outgoing, creative, a self-starter, and team oriented.
  • Data analysis and design of experiment experience with tools such as JMP, Minitab, etc.
