ualr.edu/housing Summary of Job Duties:The Skilled Tradesman is responsible for daily and annual maintenance of residence halls and apartment complexes for Campus Living. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma or GED;

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in general maintenance work for large complexes, buildings, and/or residences;

OTHER JOB-RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work.

  • EPA certification

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform various maintenance duties such as minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and grounds work such as changing light bulbs, unclogging sinks/drains, repairing garbage disposals, and repairing/replacing toilet seats, etc.;

  • Engage in manual labor that uses both hand and power tools for repairs;

  • Assist with repairs, preventative maintenance, and special projects for residence halls and apartment complexes;

  • Review and record daily work orders from supervisor(s) to help schedule work and supplies;

  • Assist with maintaining an inventory and organizing workshop space, tools, and supplies;

  • Help prepare properties for rental, assist with renovations and upgrades, move furniture and appliances, and assemble furniture;

  • Work with the summer student maintenance crew to ensure the campus is ready for the annual opening;

  • Ensure excellent customer service to all UA Little Rock residents, students, faculty, staff, parents, and guests;

  • Assist with event setup and cleanup;

  • Assist and coordinate with Facilities Management projects that require a certified professional;

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in general maintenance;

  • Knowledge of the accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of general maintenance;

  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to general maintenance;

  • Ability to provide mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates for general maintenance;

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, and/or work drawings;

  • Ability to prepare cost estimates for university stakeholders;

  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions;

  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks within established time frames;

  • Ability to maintain, repair, and renovate buildings as assigned;

  • Ability to operate power tools;

  • Ability to maintain inventory of needed parts and tools for general maintenance;

  • Ability to fit and install or apply doors, stairs, moldings, hardware, sheetrock walls, drop-in ceiling systems, tile, carpet, and paint;

  • Willingness and ability to learn basic computer skills and specific computer programs used for the job;

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays;

  • Possess a valid driver's license and have the ability to drive a vehicle.
