Diesel Mechanic - $3,000 sign-on bonus - 4 days a week/10 hour shifts

Come join our team at The Minnesota Star Tribune as a full-time Diesel Mechanic! Our mechanics perform scheduled preventative maintenance and necessary repairs to our distribution fleet of trucks (light and heavy) and cargo vans. Disassemble and overhaul motors, transmissions, rear ends, electrical systems, and all other assemblies. Our mechanics work with a high degree of independence. We provide the uniforms, tool allowance, and four 10-hour shifts per week, Wednesday through Saturday nights 10pm-8am. We have a generous PTO program - 22 days annually to start! We are also offering a $3000 sign-on bonus and we have a free fitness center on-site available for your use!

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform preventative maintenance
• Perform system diagnosis and repairs
• Disassemble and overhaul motors, transmissions, rear ends, electrical systems and other assemblies
• Maintain vehicle records and completes necessary documents
• Answer road calls
• Review driver's pre-trip inspection slips

Qualifications:

• CDL-A or CDL-B preferred, but not required
• Valid drivers license
• Mechanical knowledge of gas, propane, and diesel repair
• Experience with hydraulic and air brake systems
• Knowledge of internal combustible engines
• Proficient in using diagnostic equipment, scan tools, and personal computer
• ASE Certification/Technical School a plus, but not required.
• Welding and fabrication experience is a plus, but not required.

Pay: This is a union position based on The Minnesota Star Tribune's Teamsters Local 638 contract. Current rate of pay is $33.95 per hour. We are also offering a $3,000 hiring bonus, paid in 90, 180, and 365 day installments.

Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week Wed - Sat 10pm-8am.

Offers are contingent on the successful completion of a pre-placement DOT physical, drug screen, employment verification, and criminal background check.
