Department Statement
Colgate University, a top-ranked liberal arts college, is seeking an Assistant/Associate Director of Alumni Engagement to create and implement programs and initiatives that fully embrace the identities, experiences, and backgrounds of the alumni community. Founded in 1819, Colgate is a small, highly selective residential liberal arts college for students of talent who are preparing for lives of leadership and productive citizenship. The University is currently engaged in a $1B campaign in support of the Third-Century Plan, a comprehensive roadmap that will advance Colgate's efforts to pursue its mission at the highest level and establish Colgate as one of the finest undergraduate institutions in the nation. One of the components-the Plan for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ( DEI)- stands as Colgate's most definitive plan in 200 years for elevating the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the institution.
Accountabilities
Accountable for creation and delivery of programs and events to strengthen alumni connection and engagement for alumni affinity groups, specifically alumni of color, First Generation, OUS, LGBTQ+, Asian/Asian American, and Latinx, among others. Responsible for developing programming in ways that enhance understanding of the university, the Third-Century Plan and Plan for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ( DEI), and Colgate's DEI initiatives.
Accountable for creative programming and management of Regional Club Leaders serving clubs around the world including the planning and execution of signature regional club programs, including Colgate Day. Responsible for effective recruitment, management, training, and engagement of regional club leaders.
Responsible for creating and implementing annual plans that lead to greater alumni participation, innovative and robust programming, and stronger ties between alumni of color and historically marginalized communities and the University, with one another, and with students.
Serve as Advancement liaison to the Office of Equity and Diversity and the Partnership for Racial Progress ( PRP), a group of alumni of color who seek to enhance life at the University and promote a sense of community and connection among Colgate graduates.
Responsible for effective identification, recruitment, management, training, stewardship and engagement of volunteers connected to various identity groups including alumni of color, First Generation, OUS, LGBTQ+, Asian/Asian American, and Latinx, among others. Responsible for preparing written briefing documents for engagement opportunities.
Collaborates with the Dean of College division to provide opportunities for alumni to connect with students through Career Services, Colgate's Africana, Latin, Asian, and Native American ( ALANA) Cultural Center, and other programs and departments.

Requirements


Professional Experience/ Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in event planning, project management, volunteer management, alumni engagement, diversity, equity, and inclusion, student services, and/or related fields
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives, strategies and best practices
  • Must be able to work collegially and effectively with a diverse group of alumni, students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis
  • Experience or aptitude for measuring success and reporting on programs with quantitative and qualitative data
  • Comfort with fundraising and fundraising adjacent activities
  • Enthusiastic commitment to advancing the University's mission
  • Staffing the annual Reunion weekend is a requirement of this position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional and/or volunteer experience in educational, advocacy, non-profit and/or related organizations
  • Experience and/or familiarity with alumni engagement and/or fundraising in a higher education setting
  • Appointment at the associate director level requires a minimum of four years of professional experience in event planning, project management, volunteer management, engagement, diversity, equity, and inclusion, student services and/or related fields
