The Surgical Technicianis responsible for the creation and maintenance of the sterile field. The Technician accurately and efficiently anticipates surgeon's needs intraoperatively by applying comprehensive knowledge of operative procedures, equipment, anatomy and surgeons preferences. The Surgical Technicianworks closely with all perioperative team members during the preoperative, intraoperative and post-operative care of the surgical patient. The Surgical Technician will also be required to precept. The Surgical Technicianworks under the Supervision of the Surgeon, Charge Nurse, and Registered Nurse.

Knowledge/Special Skills: Requires stability and flexibility in emergent situations. Must show initiative and dexterity in the timely and accurate preparation of instruments, supplies and equipment. Prolonged standing - subject to irregular hours and call. Requires technical knowledge and skills regarding surgical instrumentation and equipment. Requires understanding of anatomy and surgical procedures. Requires knowledge of aseptic technique and sterilization processes. Requires knowledge of medication safety and security.

High School graduate or equivalent. BLS Certification-Renewed Bi-Annually or as required. Proof of graduation from a Civilian, Military, or Hospital Based Surgical Technician Education Program and eligible to obtain National Certification via NBSTSA (CST) or NCCT (TS-C
