POSITION SUMMARY:

The Safety Supervisor will provide direct Health and Safety leadership to the Lowell plant located in Ocala, Florida. This role may also provide H&S support to other Minerals plants and terminals and participate on the H&S audit team.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

Health and Safety

Responsible for compliance with MSHA regulations including employee training, delivery, and documentation:

  • Maintain records in accordance with company/location policy.
    • Lead on all accident and incident investigations for facilities in area of responsibility.
    • Assist Health and Safety with reports to Workers' Compensation and monitor Workers' Compensation claims.
    • Assist Health and Safety in the completion and submittal of any company, local, state, or federal agency reports.
    • Provide the necessary documentation to Regional Safety& Health Manager and Plant Manager to demonstrate personnel training.
  • Train employees on relevant procedures, practices, and regulations
  • Support site contractor audit process.
  • Participate and be a leader in Plant and Regional Safety projects and supporting efforts.
  • Develop a system to periodically review and audit health and safety programs.
  • Perform and assist in the development of Job Safety Analysis and work with site managers to develop safe and compliant work procedures.
  • Provide front end input for safety and compliance on all capital projects, equipment, or process changes.
  • Ensure compliance and maintenance of company/site Industrial Hygiene program.
  • Create best practices for safety protocol implementation and follow up.
  • Manage all site safety functions including walking with MSHA and conducting site specific training.
  • Maintain all site safety documentation.
  • Arrange/hold annual MSHA refresher training as appropriate.
  • Hold safety meetings as appropriate.

Safety Program

  • Perform routine inspections of site and equipment.
  • Coordinate safety recognition programs for consistency.
  • Develop a system to periodically review and audit health and safety programs.
  • Coordinate safety committee functions.
  • Develop and assist in delivering routine safety meetings.
  • Perform / Assist in the development of Task Training checklist and work with managers to develop safe and compliant work procedures.
  • Oversee site Safety Management System.

Assist/Manage the analysis of compliance programs and develop best practices.

  • Provide front end input for safety and compliance on all capital projects, equipment, or process changes.
  • Ensure compliance and maintenance of company/site safety procedures.
  • Implement and audit company safety standards.
  • Maintain site files including MSHA and safety records, and personnel files.
  • Pull and report working hours for MSHA reporting using SAP.

Perform other duties as assigned.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Knowledgeable of state and federal laws, regulations, and agencies (MSHA, DOT), the regulatory process, and the procedure for obtaining information is preferred.

  • Behavioral competencies include tolerance for stress, practical learning, adaptability, multi-tasking, teamwork, planning and organizing.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Safety and Health Standards, Microsoft Office, background experience with work processing, document control, administration, preparation of spreadsheets, graphs and charts and presentation skills.
  • Ability to reach deadlines and multi-task.
  • Advanced spelling and grammar skills, as well as phone skills and organizational skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong typing skills and adaptability to changing environment.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate the business' needs. Ability to overtime and/or weekend coverage in some circumstances or any day of the week.
  • Good organizational and detail skills are required.
  • Must be able to always maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.
  • Multi-tasking capability

Physical Demands include, but are not limited to:

  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Will be working in a plant environment generally but will have some office responsibilities as well.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma, GED Equivalent. Administrative training or certification and/or AA degree in Health and Safety, business, management, English, HR, related field, and/or equivalent work experience in the field is desired.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

  • BS degree in Health and Safety, Management, English, Business or HR or administrative related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have 2-4 years of progressive operations safety support responsibilities in a manufacturing, shipping or mining environment. Proven ability to support multiple groups within an organization is required. A strong sense of confidentiality and handling sensitive information is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of previous Health and Safety, customer service, operations, and quality experience in a manufacturing or mining environment.
