The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Following established kitchen standards and recipes, policies of Columbia University restaurants and management, and health and safety regulations, the rounds person is responsible for the preparation and production of all foods in all areas of the kitchen. Reporting to Chef de Cuisine, the rounds person prepares food for events and the pop-up dining locations on the Morningside Campus.

Responsibilities

* Prepare meats, fish, vegetables, sauces, salads, and desserts in accordance to the recipes and directions provided by the chef.
* Interact with customers and carry out efficient execution of orders.
* Ensure sufficient "mise-en-place" of his/her assigned station before and after meal period.
* Ensure proper food presentation following set standards and sanitary measures during the preparation and cooking of all food items.
* Perform related responsibilities as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications



  • High School Diploma or its equivalent is required.
  • Minimum two years experience as a Rounds Person or similar training or experience.
  • Proven ability to execute recipes involving all phases and prepare all dishes consistently and according to Chef's specifications and instructions.
  • Must demonstrate excellent knife skills/manual dexterity (chopping, slicing, dicing, etc.) and commonly-used concepts, procedures, and practices in a restaurant.
  • Able to work in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment, stand for long period of time, lift and/or move various equipment in excess of 50 lbs, and withstand high temperatures.
  • Requires good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Position requires flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and holidays.
