Description

This is an academic position in the practice and teaching of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine to
medical students, residents and allied health professionals.


Examples of Duties

Teaching 10%
1. Participate in the development and implementation of specific undergraduate curricula in
pediatric critical care medicine.
2. Participate directly in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Residency training.
3. Participate in continuing education programs in pediatric critical care medicine for both
the clinical faculty and for practicing physicians in the area.
4. Represent a role model for students and residents as a teacher and in practicing
pediatric critical care medicine.

Service (Patient Care) 85%
1. Demonstrates, by actions, commitment to the mission and the behavioral standards of
SIU School of Medicine. Provides excellent service to both internal and external
customers through collaboration and partnership; compassion and respect; integrity and
accountability; diversity and inclusion; as well as continuous learning and improvement.
2. Set an example to future practitioners of highly-skilled and conscientious practice of
pediatric critical care medicine that is balanced with self-education and other academic
activities.
3. Participate in the sedation service program at St. John's Children's Hospital.
4. Act as Pediatric medical control for St. John's CONNECT and the pediatric transport
team when on call.
5. Maintain a clinical practice in pediatric critical care medicine in order to enhance clinical
proficiency.
6. Participate in peer review for assessing clinical practice skills for faculty within the
Division.
7. Attend national meetings and symposia in pediatric critical care medicine and related
fields for the purpose of contribution, acquisition of additional knowledge, and as an
example to other physicians.
8. Represent the Division and/or Department and attend meetings as requested by the
Division and/or Department Chairman.

Research 5%
1. Participate in research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of
the Division.


Qualifications

* Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations
* MD or equivalent degree
* Board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics
* Board eligible for Certification in Pediatric Critical Care by the American Board of Pediatrics
* Eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois
