General Purpose of Job

This position works alongside assigned technicians conducting safety inspections, oil changes, lubrication work, basic maintenance and minor repair of all vehicle fleet and equipment; installation of mobile communications equipment; and assists with maintenance of hydraulic and other aerial lifting devices associated with the vehicle fleet.

Fleet Technician 2nd Class

Education
Minimum: High School or GED
Preferred: Two (2) years of vocational/technical training in general vehicle maintenance on gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic and electric systems and welding.
Preferred: ASE and Fluid Power certifications or ability to obtain as required by the position.

Experience
Minimum: Two (2) years recent and ongoing progressive experience in repair and maintenance of light, medium and heavy duty vehicles including welding.
Preferred: Experience with utility vehicle fleet maintenance operation or related industry.

Preferred: Experience or similar work with an electric utility or related industry.

Other Requirements


  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer, printers, copy machines, telephone, and fax machine.
  • Ability to work irregular hours for assignment completion and flexibility to change scheduling and report to work on short notice during emergency situations.
  • A valid Florida Class A Commercial driver's license without air brakes restriction and without number 5 Tractor-Trailer restrictionor, must obtain within 6-months from transfer or hire date and maintain an acceptable driving record as determined by the Cooperative.
  • Frequent business travel to all areas of service territory required.
  • The normal work week consists of five (5) consecutive eight (8) hour days, Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 midnight.
    • Irregular hours in evenings and on weekends are possible during peak business times and during storm season.
    • The Cooperative will determine if an eight (8) hour or ten (10) hour schedule will be used and shall establish the normal schedule of starting and quitting time.
    • Shift schedules may be changed by giving a 36-hour notice of the changed schedule.
    • Flexibility to work overtime for assignment completion and to report to work on short notice during emergency situations; ability to work on-call and respond to call-outs, as needed, and maintain the Cooperative standard for Call-Out response after working hours.

  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check, physical and drug screen.


Living Requirement: Employees in this classification must live within a 40-mile radius from the assigned reporting work location. Employees who live a greater distance from the work center must relocate within their first six (6) months in this position. A maximum of ninety (90) minutes will be allowed for response to callouts.

Driving Requirements: Class A or B CDL - with no restriction for airbrake and tractor trailer. Class B CDL must be upgraded to Class A after 6-month probation period and within one year from hire.

Fleet Technician 1st Class

Education
Minimum: High School or GED
Preferred: Two (2) years of vocational/technical training in general vehicle maintenance on gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems and welding.
Preferred: ASE certification in any auto or truck mechanical area.
Preferred: Initial Fluid Power Certification or ability to obtain as required by the position.

Experience
Minimum: Four (4) years recent and ongoing progressive experience in diagnostic repair and maintenance of light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles including welding and mobile hydraulic systems and diesel emissions.
Preferred: Experience with a utility vehicle fleet maintenance operation or related industry.

Other Requirements
