Job Description

The Assistant Director of Student Services Coordinator supervises staff and student assistants who process international applications for admission to UMKC at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and for specific programs such as English as a Second Language, study abroad, and high school dual credit. This position oversees the office's core functions of data entry and linking, transcript evaluation and verification, issuance of admission decisions, I-20s and DS-2019s for F1 and J1 students. The assistant director serves as a liaison for university partners, both on and off campus. Passion for international education and intercultural competence is key to success in this role.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise full-time personnel, which includes work allocation, training and problem resolution; performance evaluation and making recommendations for personnel actions, and motivating employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Monitor day-to-day operations of the Admissions team, assist in developing admission policies, procedures and criteria, resolve problems when necessary, and recommend changes to office policies and procedures.
  • Oversee student employees through hiring, training and supervision, along with determining work schedules, monitoring productivity, and approving payroll.
  • Support the office by disseminating information and processes changes to the Admission team related to university and federal regulatory guidance updates relevant to admission, scholarships, and study eligibility for all visa types which allow enrollment.
  • Collaborate with academic units and other campus partners to develop ways to support initiatives that involve the admissions process including but not limited to MOU/MOAs, specialized academic programs, and scholarships.
  • Liaise with the UMKC Athletics Department to address student-athlete needs such as processing of the admissions application, monitoring NCAA Division I eligibility for admission, and generating documents for F-1 visa applications.
  • Partner with Study Abroad and Global Engagement team to facilitate exchange student application, admission and J-1 application process.
  • Troubleshoot technology needs for staff and campus partners.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience serving as DSO and ARO
* Understanding of international admissions processes, specifically at the graduate level
* Comfort with ambiguity and upholding UMKC policies and processes that ensure consistency
* Internal admissions and international credential evaluation and/or validation experience
* Proficiency with Slate and other similar CRMs
* Supervisory experience
* Strong leadership and communication skills

Anticipated Hiring Range

$51,875 - $55,000 annually, commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
