GENERAL NATURE OF POSITION

The School of Social Work is looking for a qualified, enthusiastic, and dedicated social worker with practice and academic experience to serve as the program coordinator. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and successful School with over 50 years of history and with continuous accreditation of its BASW and MSW programs from the Council on Social Work Education. The School is currently responsible for over $30 million of grants, stipends, and scholarships, and offers training programs for workforce development including areas of Adult Protective Services, Public Behavioral Services, Integrated Behavioral Services, Pupil Personnel Services Credential, Wellness Coaches, and other specific interests.

Under the general direction of the director of the School of Social Work, the program coordinator is responsible for four major areas: (1) collaboration and oversight of recruitment, admissions, advising, retention, and post-graduation follow-up of BASW and MSW students to fulfill goals for enrollment expansion and workforce development, (2) completing program and budget reports to fulfill grant, scholarship, stipend, and funding requirements, (3) supporting other program and project coordinators and administration in logistics and tracking of specialization area completion and certificates, (4) administration and development of current and new initiatives to enhance quality and integration of the School's projects towards an integrated strategy to attract, train, educate, and graduate new generations of social work professionals. The program coordinator is a part-time, 20 hours per week role with the opportunity for additional hours of employment to reach full time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. In consultation with the School director and principal investigator (PI):



  • Oversee expansion grants and similar workforce development initiatives
  • Support admissions, advising, retention, and post-graduation follow-up of BASW and MSW students
  • Develop strategies for social work training project integration and expansion



  1. Assist the School director and PI in overseeing fiscal and programmatic accountability of workforce expansion grants including:



  • Fiscal procedures
  • Budget development
  • Required reports
  • Monetary payback



  1. Student recruitment support - assist in recruitment of BASW and MSW students, including:



  • Student recruitment and selection processes
  • Exploring development of new training and workforce expansion programs



  1. Assist the School in support of BASW and MSW graduates through:



  • Job search process
  • Preparation for employment and hiring opportunities
  • Employment payback monitoring and tracking systems


INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS

  1. Report to the School director and PI regarding policies, procedures, activities, and program/student matters.
  2. Collaborate with the program coordinators, field education director, MSW/BASW program directors, school coordinator, and school director as needed regarding the overall integration of efforts to meet goals, competences, and accreditation.
  3. Interact with School of Social Work faculty, School administrative staff, SJSU Research Foundation staff, community groups, and students.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience


  • Minimum qualifications include Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited MSW program.
  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with workforce development and/or training projects.
  • Experience with training and supervising students in the field practicum.
  • Experience with diverse populations and cross-cultural practice.
  • Experience in program development and recruitment activities.
  • Experience with teaching, curriculum development, and training.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required

  • Requires knowledge of CSWE competencies and social work related policies and practices in California.
  • Ability to work with ethnically diverse students, faculty and agency staff to implement recruitment, training, and education.
  • Requires excellent computer and technology skills.
  • Requires strong communication skills (written and verbal) as well as interpersonal and collaborative abilities.
  • Good interpersonal and collaboration skills.


Complexity of Duties

  • Requires the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills in developing remedial plans for students when necessary and in resolving disputes between students and agencies.
  • Works without appreciable direction on assigned projects.
  • Adheres to the standards and NASW Code of Ethics for the social work profession.


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to operate a computer, including mouse, keyboard, and other peripheral equipment.
  • Must be able to operate basic office equipment such as telephone, fax machine, and copier.
  • Must have transportation available and be able to travel extensively (daytime only) between social service agencies located in several different counties.
