Rockport Terminal Supervisor - Mechanical

Position Summary:

Supervises, directs, and participates in all terminal operations and maintenance activities on an assigned shift. Supervises the unloading/loading of vessels and barges, railcar unloading/loading operations, and repair/recovery and preventive maintenance to all bulk handling systems. Coordinates with management personnel for previous and following shifts to ensure continuity of all pier work tasks while ensuring decisions are within the various labor agreement boundaries/specifications.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:



  • Assign work tasks to shift employees.
  • Ensure adherence to all CSX safe work practices and policies.
  • Communicates operational and maintenance plans to all pertinent personnel.
  • Directly coordinate and supervise the railroad union personnel to ensure the safe operation and maintenance of equipment associated with loading and unloading railcars and vessels/barges at Rockport Terminals.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship with customers, suppliers, vessel agents, the U. S. Coast Guard, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.
  • Enforce all regulations related to Homeland Security and the CSX facility security plan.


Knowledge and Skills:



  • Ability to effectively identify, comprehend, and incorporate the critical elements of a situation, interpret the implications and, if appropriate, implement alternative course of action.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of and be able to assign and supervise all terminal mechanical maintenance functions including welding/fabrication, industrial mechanics, hydraulic systems maintenance, conveyor maintenance and spillage clean up.
  • Microsoft Office skills.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the transportation or rail industry and understanding of train operations, planning, resourcing and constraints.


Minimum Qualifications



  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 4 or more years of experience in Transportation, Logistics, Mechanical, Engineering or Rail Operations


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
  • 2 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation, Logistics, or Rail Operations
