The Transportation unit at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a PRT Maintenance Worker II. About the Opportunity The Morgantown Personal Rapid Transit System (PRT), is a totally automated public transit system consisting of five passenger stations, 70 driverless electrically powered vehicles, 2 maintenance facilities, 9 miles of dedicated heated guideway (running surface), and a vast array of ancillary equipment. The Guideway Heating Technician provides the technical interface and expertise to operate and maintain the PRT, one of a kind, heating system. Pay Grade: PG14 Work Hours: 2p - 10p What you'll do:
- The duties will be more complex and will work with less supervision than a Tech I
- To PRT vehicles, performs journeyman level mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting and repair actions (including: hydraulic, pneumatics, suspension, steering, brakes, doors, modules, etc.)
- To PRT guideway structures, stations, buildings, fences, ancillary equipment and support equipment, performs scheduled maintenance actions and general maintenance type repairs (including: steel, masonry, painting, cleaning, etc.)
- Performs a variety of miscellaneous support activities necessary to support the overall maintenance mission, including:
- Operates motor vehicle (4-wheel drive) standard transmission with valid driver's license. Operates special purpose motor equipment within the maintenance facility and on the guideway structure (recovery vehicle forklift). Implements emergency response plans and actions for unplanned or emergency events.
- Routinely communicates with other PRT employees via handheld UHF radio to provide vital information as needed and as assigned by the shift supervisor, participates in PRT vehicle recoveries and functions as a MOCU (manual override control unit) operator.
- Interprets maintenance manuals, schematics and drawings, and communicates with others in performance of work open/close passenger stations.
- Makes recommendations for hardware and procedural changes which become evident during performance of the PRT maintenance efforts.
- Attends technical and safety training as assigned.
- Works to keep work area clean and organized.
- assigned tools and is responsible for tool inventory. Responsible for assigned keys and the access they provide.
- Performs snow removal and de-icing as assigned.
- Supports PRT operation for special events (football, basketball, concerts, etc).
- Accounts for man-hours (your own) and materials used in the performance of maintenance.
- As assigned, functions as a group leader for other maintenance personnel and acts on the supervisor's behalf during the supervisor's absence. Performs various types of minor auto body repairs and painting.
Qualifications
Education
- Associates degree of over 18 months and up to 3 years of vocational, technical or military training beyond high school or equivalent job experiences.
Experience
- Completion of PRT Job Proficiency Training Program requirements.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in the following:
- Experience of hands on complex mechanical equipment repairs. This experience is deemed necessary because of the complex nature and relative safety of the PRT mechanical maintenance.
- Experience within the PRT system or equivalent and completion of Job Proficiency Training Program requirements (within six months).
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License - The legal operation of a state vehicle during an overland response to remote system locations.
- Completion of PRT Job Proficiency Training Program requirements for PRT Tech I.
- Requires mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
