Position Highlights

The University Facility Services Grounds Department is looking for diverse career minded candidates to join our team as Athletic Field Specialist. Grounds Services maintains the beautiful grounds at the University of Arizona.

The Athletic Field Specialist will work as part of our turf team to assist with the maintenance of nearly 50 acres of turf areas including lawns, athletic field, and synthetic turf fields. This position requires specialized knowledge of athletic turf management.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate power equipment including mowers, blowers, edgers, and tractors.
  • Operate specialized equipment including sprayers, aerators, and topdressers.
  • Apply fertilizer, seed, and other materials to turf areas.
  • Prepare and maintain athletic fields for practices and competitions.
  • Perform general landscaping duties as assigned.
  • Maintain synthetic turf surfaces.
  • Assist with renovations and repairs to turf areas including sod work and overseeding.
  • Communicate with Superintendent and Crew chief about potential issues and concerns. Professionally interact with coaches, admin and student body.

Physical Requirements

  • Perform moderate to heavy manual labor outdoors in temperature extremes for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than one year of experience working on university or professional level sports fields.
  • Experience working for University, School District, or City/State Agencies or Parks.
  • Fertilizer and chemical application rates experience.
  • Experience operating specialized turf equipment like sprayers, spreaders, aerators, mowers, or similar.
  • Experience managing clay surfaces for baseball and/or softball.
