Job Description:

Engineering Services (E.S.) is a department within Ferrovial Construction charged with providing full-service engineering and design services for our megaprojects in North America. E.S. manages the design of highways, railways, tunnels, transit infrastructures and airports in the U.S. and Canada. With its North American operations headquartered in Austin, Texas, Ferrovial Construction has managed nearly $18 billion in design-build construction since 2006, representing some of the largest, most complex transportation infrastructure projects in the U.S. and Canada. Currently, Ferrovial Construction is managing five major highway construction projects in Georgia, Texas and Virginia.

Job Description:

As a Structural Intern, you will work on a variety of civil infrastructure projects, mainly large-scale Design & Build Projects across the US geography for either the bidding phase or the construction phase. You will have the opportunity to learn and improve the Company standards for Structural and Bridge design. You will become part of a team that supports all parts of the structural design process by proposing innovative solutions, performing and reviewing structural calculations. You will also be collaborating with other Ferrovial Departments, being exposed to construction Means & Methods, and Estimating, increasing your expertise in construction focused structural design. Under the supervision and mentoring of Ferrovial Construction US Engineering Services department, you will have the technical support and all resources to develop and advance your career participating in large scale projects in a collaborative environment.

Tasks:

  • Under the direct supervision of a Structural Manager, perform and/or review calculations by others and design drawings, according to codes and standards and additional contract criteria.

  • Assist in Project Management tasks such as budgets, schedule or quality control.

  • Contribute to develop design optimizations.

  • Help to estimate bills of quantities (Including generation of quantities and performing Quality checks on quantities by subconsultants).

  • Identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions, working in a multidisciplinary environment, actively communicating with the rest of Ferrovial Team also involved in the design and construction work to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions.

  • Support workload deadlines for on time submittals

  • Assist on field observation work if necessary.

  • Perform other duties as needed related to the scope of work described above.

  • Presential position based in Austin (Tx)

Qualifications:

  • Currently working towards MS or Advanced degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering obtained from an accredited U.S. college or university, with a focus in structural engineering is highly preferred.

  • Knowledge and practical experience in MicroStation is a plus.

  • Knowledge and practical experience with design software as Open Bridge Designer (former Leap), SAP2000, SoFiSTik, etc. is a plus.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings and specifications.

  • Strong attention to detail and can work in a fast-paced environment; an eagerness to learn and apply your engineering skills to develop creative problem-solving designs/ideas.
