A Brief Overview
Assists in providing developmental and therapeutic play and recreation programming for children. With the classroom team, supports the adaptive functioning of the child. Assists in providing structured assessment and behavioral skills training to children. The Clinical Assistant works under the close supervision of the Clinical Specialist and the Operations Manager. Provides safe transport of children to and from the program. Ensures that the bus maintenance and safety are continuously monitored and necessary repairs completed. Purchase and transport of program supplies and equipment as requested. May be requested to assist in providing clerical activities.

What you will do

  • Under supervision, supports the classroom team in meeting the child's individualized treatment plan goals through the use of structured interventions developed by the clinical and behavior team.
  • Incorporates treatment goals and interventions for the child into group and individual program activities.
  • Participates in assessment of behavioral, emotional and social problems.
  • Contributes to treatment planning.
  • Develops and/or assists in providing educational and supportive activities that improve the child's adaptive functioning.
  • Provides daily transportation services to children in the program. Must be able to drive a minibus, as well as supervise patients being transported.
  • Serves as primary or backup therapist under close supervision of Clinical Specialist and/or licensed clinical staff.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation and data collection.
  • Responsible for timely documentation of clinical information in the patient record.
  • Participates in completing evaluation and outcome measures.
  • Participates in education and research activities.
  • Assists in data collection, compilation, retrieval and graphing, as requested
  • Contributes to the preparation and delivery of lectures, posters and other presentations.
  • Suggests potential areas for research and program improvements.
  • Maintains a safe therapeutic and hazard free environment.
  • Provides close supervision to children during classroom and program activities.
  • Demonstrates and utilizes clearly delineated series of non-violent crisis intervention strategies to facilitate adaptive functioning of patients.
  • Only as a last resort, when other less restrictive measures have failed to maintain safety, utilizes Non-violent Physical Crisis Intervention.
  • Under close supervision, provides ongoing assessment of the child when they require a restrictive procedure.
  • Provides safe transport to children and their families.
  • Picks up and drops off children only at/to authorized and designated drop-off sites and care providers.
  • Provides regular communication to a clinical team member on any behavioral issues which may have occurred with the child and/or the family
  • Reports any malfunctioning of the vehicle and maintains service of the vehicle (e.g. takes vehicle for maintenance and repairs).
  • Responsible for safety equipment on the vehicles such as seat belts, fire extinguisher, and first aid kit, etc.
  • Notifies the Program Manager or Director of inclement weather or potentially hazardous driving conditions.
  • Maintains all necessary paperwork for the vehicles and for the children who are transported.
  • Shops for and/or picks-up and distributes program supplies, food and snacks

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year children who have special health care or behavioral needs Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate a company vehicle and/or be insured on a CHOP policy.
  • Knowledge of child development, demonstrated skills working with children in groups, and knowledge of behavioral principles.
  • Familiar with and comfortable using computers.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Department of Motor Vehicles - within 6 months - Required
  • CDL with Passenger Endorsement - Department of Motor Vehicles - within 6 months - Required
  • Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - Crisis Prevention Institute - within 3 months - Required
