Job Description |
The purpose of the Coordinator, Benefits position is to administer the College's benefits & retirement programs. This role is responsible for educating and enrolling employees, answering questions and resolving issues. This is accomplished through proactive communication with employees, vendors, carriers, brokers, and third party administrators. Also responsible for conducting orientation and enrollments; and processing all leave-related matters including sick, workers' compensation, and
FMLA.
This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position and includes a comprehensive benefits package offering medical, dental and vision coverage; generous paid time off; tuition assistance; and retirement savings.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Minimum of 5 years experience administering and managing benefits plans, retirement programs and employee wellness programs |
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities |
- Oversees all aspects of health and welfare plans (including new employee education, database management in both vendor and HCC systems, resolution of claim issues).
- Maintains knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations.
Proposes and implements policy and procedure changes as needed to provide program enhancements or comply with law changes. - Retirement plan administration
- Oversees all aspects of retirement plan operations and compliance.
- Provides direction to resources to assist qualifying retirees.
- Medical and discretionary leave management
- Reviews and manages all requests for leave (including FMLA, DLOA, & PTO); provides direction and support to supervisor and employee throughout the process.
- Performs tracking of leave usage and accruals.
- Oversees the sick leave bank.
- Manages all accommodation requests in accordance with ADA guidelines.
HRIS systems or Benefits Software experience- Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, & Sharepoint knowledge is a plus.
- Excellent writing, communication with the ability to interact at all levels of employees
- In-depth knowledge of employee benefit programs, including health, welfare and retirement plans
Must either be a certified Maryland State Retirement Coordinator or be able to obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment. |
Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Business
- Prior working experience in a college/university setting
- Working knowledge of Benefits Software Systems and or Banner
- MD State Retirement Coordinator
