Summary of Job Duties:The Insurance and Judicial Coordinator functions as the primary contact for all medical professional liability insurance coverage related issues and maintains the medical professional liability insurance policy roster for the individually named medical providers of UAMS and UAF. The individual must possess knowledge of the professional liability insurance policies and billing and accounting procedures related to such. The individual assists with development, coordination and implementation of programs and activities developed and implemented by Provider Claims Management. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • HS plus (4) years of experience OR
  • Certificate in paralegal services or associates degree in risk management and insurance or related field, and two (2) years' experience with an insurance company in a role processing professional liability insurance policies or at a healthcare institution in a role dealing with professional liability insurance or claims or medical staff credentialing. Will allow substitution of certificate or associates degree with additional 2 years' of experience with an insurance company in a role processing professional liability insurance policies or at a healthcare institution in a role dealing with professional liability insurance or claims or medical staff credentialing.
  • Must have working knowledge and experience with: (i) applicable federal and state healthcare regulatory laws and regulations including HIPAA privacy regulations; (ii) professional liability insurance policies, including knowledge about coverage, endorsements and exclusions; and (iii) knowledge of state laws regarding filing of professional liability claims, discovery requests; and issuing and responding to subpoenas.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, research and analytical skills.
  • Must have a high degree of maturity and professionalism.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships within the department and with all individuals with which the position interacts.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Prefer Bachelor's degree in Risk Management and Insurance and certificate in paralegal services.

  • Malpractice Insurance Policy: Monitors professional liability invoices and assures timely payment to ensure continuous coverage; creates and maintains complete and accurate database of all insured providers with appropriate identifying information, policy details and rating class; collaborates with service lines and departments to maintain appropriate insurance coverage for all providers and accuracy of database. Coordinates third party enrollment requirements between medical healthcare provider/departments and malpractice insurance carrier to ensure proper coverage is in place for 3000 plus insured providers and students. Verifies insurance coverage and provides written evidence of such upon request to providers, departments, billing offices, and credentialing offices. Provides reports to the Senior Director, Provider Claims Management, Service Lines, Departments, and Leadership on request. In response to professional liability claims, analyzes database and determines role at time of relevant event, applicable policy, and coverage limits. of professional liability. Resolves issues relating to the professional liability policy, including enrollment, termination, billing, coverage verification, and loss notices.
  • Judicial Coordination: Receives and analyzes subpoenas for medical staff members to determine appropriate routing.
  • Communicates with medical staff, medical records departments, Office of General Counsel, and external entities regarding hearings, trials, testimony, and record production. Schedules meetings with attorneys and medical staff members to prepare for hearings/trials and identify key witnesses. Obtains HIPAA authorizations when required. Communicates with attorneys and medical staff members regarding hearing status and scheduling appearances. Directs inquiries for medical records and documents to appropriate individuals.
  • Professional Liability Claims: Assists Senior Director, Provider Claims Management with gathering and researching information pertinent for the investigative process of medical negligence claims. Assists with educating and assisting insured medical provider with procedures related to legal correspondence procedures; acts as a liaison for the insured medical provider by coordinating third party involvement. Demonstrates effective business intelligence and maturity in dealing with physicians, department business administrators, third party liaisons and other UAMS employees.
  • Program Support: Performs routine tasks completely, accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision. Takes initiative to manage routine matters, demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks, and asks for direction when needed. Demonstrates a willingness to adapt to change and to support the department with new processes and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned. Demonstrates the ability to interact with a broad spectrum of personnel and personalities with dignity and respect; exhibits a high level of motivation, teamwork, professionalism, and trustworthiness; and maintains confidentiality of department activities.
