Job Summary

If you have excellent analytical skills and patience as well as flexibility and the ability to pay meticulous attention to detail, the Nomellini lab is looking for you. Under the direction of Dr. Vanessa Nomellini, the lab focuses on immune dysfunction in trauma and sepsis. The Research Associate will be responsible for both performing experiments and supervising fellow scientists in addition to lab organization, writing, and data analysis. The ideal candidate will have integrity and be open-minded plus have experience with flow cytometry, tissue culture, cell culture, and laboratory animals.


Laboratory Expectations

* Works under limited supervision to assure compliance with federal regulations relating to human subject research and/or animal care and use.

* Understands and applies ethical principles and multiple regulations to complex scientific research projects.

* Review study protocols, informed consent documents, response to stipulations, and other study-related documentation, to assure conformance with all applicable requirements.

* Provide working supervision, training, and guidance to lower-level lab personnel.

* Review work for accuracy.

* Administer expedited and exempt research review processes, including intake of protocols and assessment of review level.


Experience and Education

* Master's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and three (3) years of laboratory experience including at least two years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent. or

* Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and four (4) years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent.


Job Duties

* Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in assigned field or analysis of research data.

* Performs computer programming for accumulation and analysis of research data.

* Designs, constructs, repairs, or modifies electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects.

* Instructs medical students, graduate students, residents, or other laboratory personnel of lower grade with respect to techniques, procedures, and equipment utilized in research or experiments.

* Assists principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing reports and papers for publication.

* May provide working supervision to employees of lower grade engaged in performance of variety of difficult and complex laboratory work tasks.

* Performs other duties as assigned.
