Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating unit-based education for UT Southwestern professional clinical staff and unlicensed assistive personnel with regard to orientation and clinical education to ensure staff are able to demonstrate current competencies and meet professional standards of practice within assigned areas.

Experience and Education

* Licensure as a Registered Nurse by Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.

* BSN required.

* Two (2) recent years work in a clinical specialty. A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA).

* Endoscopy and Pre-Surgical Testing RN experience is preferred.

Job Duties



  1. Provides orientation, ongoing education and skills training for staff, including new hires and agency staff.
  2. Provides real-time input and just-in-time training on new and current staff*s clinical practice.
  3. Regarded as clinical expert and role model in application of the nursing processes and evidence-based practice to manage the complex care needs of specific patient populations.
  4. Facilitates preceptor training, resident assignment, and preceptor competencies for specific unit.
  5. Assists unit leadership in initial and annual competencies for new and current clinical staff.
  6. Performs annual unit-specific needs assessment and ongoing educational gap analysis.
  7. Serves as a facilitator to nurse and patient care technician residents and actively mentors and supports their growth in the profession and clinical practice.
  8. Works collaboratively with clinical leaders to properly identify and prioritize goals and objectives to meet the needs of the department and/or organization.
  9. Provide educational programs on a formal and informal basis.
  10. Perform one staffing shift on your assigned unit, biweekly.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

  3. Demonstrate competence in technical skills and knowledge related to assigned clinical area.
  4. Must demonstrate patient-centric values and behaviors.
  5. Proficiency in use of technology as applicable to role.
  6. Ability to establish effective, respectful and collegial working relations with all internal and external customers including, but not limited to, peer groups, leadership, patients, physicians, staff, students, volunteers and vendors.



Working Conditions

Indoor work environment with a minimum of 8 hours per day but may require additional hours; requires lifting equipment and the ability to move and reposition patients; up to 50 pounds. Risk of exposure to blood-body fluids, hazardous chemicals when working in Clinical Areas
