About the Job

Summary:
Position is for researcher in plant molecular biology. Primary responsibilities include conducting research under the supervision of the Professor and Lab Manager and assisting with lab management duties. Researcher will assist graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with goals associated with federal grants. Researcher will be responsible for plant care and genotyping. The researcher is expected to interact with and communicate well with other members of the research team. Researcher will assist with supervising undergraduate laboratory assistants.

Essential Functions:
60% Perform Research - Conduct independent laboratory research using a variety of molecular biological and biochemical techniques, primarily including plasmid construction, plant genotyping and PCR based activity assays. Will be responsible for generating, recording, and analyzing molecular data.

25% Maintain Plant material for experiments - Continually grow and plant various plant species for experiments by researchers in the lab

5% Train and Supervise Undergraduate Employees
Show undergraduate Lab Assistants how to perform basic lab-maintenance tasks such as autoclaving, preparing media, and washing glassware

5% Maintain Laboratory Equipment
Keep laboratory equipment in working order including interfacing with companies/individuals repairing equipment. Maintain computers in working order.

5% Prepare presentations
Present literature at bi-weekly journal clubs. Prepare data for presentations and manuscripts. Read literature sufficiently to present data in context.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
BS/BA in Plant Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or similar or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years. Apply knowledge and skill to a recurring task or activity with emphasis on precision and timeliness of execution. Demonstrated ability to interact with others in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Molecular biology experience, including DNA analysis software. Experience working with plants. Experience designing and making DNA vectors. Experience with engineered nucleases such as TALENs or Cas9 Plant tissue culture experience. Experience working with plant viruses.
