General Position Description

The Senior Estimator bids and helps win highly profitable and constructible projects that have pricing strategies developed to maximize our operational effectiveness, develop opportunities, enhance returns, and avoid negative impacts during project execution.

Heavy focus on construction of military construction, building renovations with secure spaces, hangar buildings/aircraft support spaces, maintenance facilities, operations facilities, and mission critical environments.

The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating team, the coordination of bid documents, labor productions, subcontractor and vendor pricing, subcontractor and vendor relationships, owner estimates, and working with the Executive team on project schedules and risks.

Responsibilities



  • Focus on team building and employee growth.
  • Provide Senior-level training and development.
  • Craft bid conditions/clarifications and negotiate with clients.
  • Thoroughly investigates the specifications, scope of work, and drawings of a bid and develops a complete understanding of the requirements.
  • Accurately and timely performs and/or delegates takeoffs and calculations and analyzes data.
  • Takes site visits to gather detailed, relevant data on project site conditions and effectively incorporates this information during the bid process.
  • Meets with subcontractors prior to bidding to develop a relationship.
  • Conducts field visits to existing projects to verify production rates and learn new construction techniques. Adjusts bid methods accordingly.
  • Attends team kick off and schedule oversight meetings, red team reviews, and/or additional reviews.
  • Negotiates agreements that optimize cost, quality, and delivery using the company buyout procedure.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of the contract documents and the potential risks for a project. Makes well-supported recommendations on how to mitigate and price risks to executive management.
  • Helps develop pricing strategies.


Qualifications



  • For Security Clearance Requirements - must be a US Citizen, as required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology or other equivalent degree. Experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
  • Ten or more years of relevant vertical building construction industry experience with progressively greater responsibility.
  • Experience working with the Federal Government and understanding FAR requirements is preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of markets, clients, and competitors.
  • Deep knowledge of multiple professional types of work and systems.
  • Successfully led and managed complex bids.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and people skills are a must.
  • Entrepreneurial with a well-rounded business perspective.
  • Has a solid time management system and demonstrates excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.), On Screen Takeoff (OST) or other digitized software, and plan and spec reading.
  • Expert knowledge of estimating, engineering, cost tracking systems and site surveying.
  • Experience with Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEPF) estimating is required.
  • Experience with Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEPF) design-build estimating, is a plus.
